Default Last minute with kids...maybe...

SOOOOO...

Our original Spring Break plans of going to Cancun have fallen through...at least it seems that way. With Adam & his father in business together, it seems next to impossible that we can all vacation together...especially not now with 2 school jobs starting up (they own a commercial masonry company).

Anyway...I'm left figuring out what we should do for Spring Break. My kids were looking forward to a trip to Mexico. I'm half tempted to still come down. Flights are decently priced, but I'm just at a loss of where to stay. Anyone have any luck with non-AI hotels in Playa with kids? Mine are 4 & 6. I did a brief search, but -- I'll admit it -- I got lazy.

Any and all info, suggestions, help, etc. is appreciated.

I have found that when traveling to Playa with kids, a condo is the way to go.

That's what I'm thinking...especially seeing as how I'm thinking about inviting my parents. Of course, this is all up in the air. My hubby says we shouldn't go...that he'd rather take the kids to Great Wolf Lodge which is about an hour from us. But, THAT place is between $300-$600 a night during our kids' spring break. I don't think so.

I know what you mean. We have the worlds largest concentration of water parks within a 4 hour drive of us up in the Wisconsin Dells (not bragging mind you, just stating facts). But when I think of the travel time (the drive is almost the same as the flight to CUN), the cost (same as yours above, plus overpriced but crappy food and drink for four), and the general cheese factor...well add it all up and frankly, my dear, I'd rather be in Playa! Good thing is, the brainwashing is working...and now so would the kids

I agree with Gingele. I've brought the kids a few times, and when they were that young, non-AI's were a challenge just because of the fact that the rooms generally are smaller, don't have the entertainment that the large AI's have, and often don't have TV and Satellite, however horrible that sounds while on vacation. But honestly, when you are in one room with your young kids without their wealth of toys about you, you need SOMETHING to keep them occupied. Often you don't want to spend every waking moment walking around town, kids are tiring!

I'd say definately a condo is the way to go if not doing an AI with younger children. This way you have a few more rooms at your disposal...you can put the kids to bed in the bedroom, and have the livingroom to yourselves. You almost always will also have TV/Cable/Satellite/Internet. And having a kitchen will also bring costs down. You can still have a maid come in for a small cost.
