Heck, Libby, we don't know how to pronounce Roo!?!? When Biz started doing this video, several Mexicans and some long time Playa residents told us the correct pronunciation was a long O sound (as in row your boat). But then others said it was roo that rhymes with you. Anybody know for sure???

Here is my philosophy on the Ru vs. Row debate.

In Spanish, the double 'o' (oo) is pronounced as an extended short 'o' sound. So, the word Roo would indeed be pronounced similar to 'row'. However, in English we would pronounce it as 'ru' with a long 'u'.

In the Roo is an English language website and the words 'in the" are English. So, whenever I say 'In the Roo', I pronounce it as 'Ru' because I'm speaking English. But when I translate it to a Spanish speaker as 'En la Roo', I pronounce it as 'Row' because I'm speaking Spanish.

Similarly, I change my pronunciation of Mexico depending on who I'm speaking to. Mek-si-ko for English speakers and Me-hi-ko for Spanish speakers.
