Default Mexican Technology Amazes Visitors

Is it just me or does everyone like to watch the reactions of some tourists as they have their first encounter with the cart escalators at WalMart and Mega?

Kids like to run in the opposite direction. Some don't trust the device to hold the cart, so they hold on for dear life. Others are afraid to step on it and a few pose for photos on it.

As my workplace is only a block away from WalMart, you can probably tell I spend a little too much time there.

My eyes were as large as dinner plates when I saw their bakery.

Is it one of those escalators where the cart wheels click into the bottom of the esclator and hold it firmly in place so you can't move the cart at all until the cart gets to the top of the excalator? We have those here, too. I think it's law here, have to have them.

I LOVED those!
I didn't know of them before- so after my first shopping at Mega upon getting to the escalators I was panicking inside as I was scared I wouldn't be able to hold the cart......... so while I was bracing myself inside for the struggle I suddenly realized that the cart ain't moving!! I was definately one of the ones with huge eyes. The first times I still held onto the cart as if it were for dear life........trust issues I guess.

Those are the ones. Problem is that they don't always hold the cart. Sometimes it can get loose, which really sucks when you have a kid sitting in it. Not that this ever happened to me.

Also, at the bottom of the one you take as you leave, there can be some problems when a person stops to gawk or move past the taxi line. I have seen some multicart pileups.

What I love is that the escalator allows you and your cart a smooth ride to the bottom where you find youreself in a concrete valley. You have to push yourself uphill to the parking lot and then across the brick lined lot while your bottles bang together and the cart wheels shimmy into misalingment. At least the ride down the escalotor was smooth.
