Default New to Forum

This is my first post to this forum. Want to ask if this website is a
sister/brother to the other Playa forum or if this is an independent? Format seems similar but not quite.
Thank you for answering my question!

Hi YalkuHa! Glad to have you here. It's great that you found us. We are totally independent from the other forum. It looks similar because we use similar software. Since we are new, the information here will be current....at least for now. You'll find that we're very open to questions here. We hope you never get a response that says, "go use the search function." You are also welcome to post links to hotels, tours, and Playa web sites that are beneficial to our community. While spamming is certainly not allowed, you won't be banned for posting a commercial link. Overall, we think you will find less censorship here.

IntheRoo.com is owned by local Playa residents, and the web site itself has lots of good information for anyone considering visiting or moving here. We have a significant number of local residents who are members of this forum, so if we don't have the answer, we'll find it for you.

Welcome! We hope you enjoy our online community.

Thank you so much for the warm welcome. I like the "positive" feel of this forum already. Now, can someone tell me how you do that "quote" thing?

Just hit QUOTE on the bottom right hand of the post you want to answer. That will quote the other poster and allow you to post an answer at the same time Easy!

Welcome, YalkuHa. There should be a button labelled "Quote" in the lower right corner of each individual post display area. Maybe you need to scroll to the right to see it on your monitor?

Click there to open the post editor with the text of the chosen message wrapped in the special "quote" and "end quote" markers. You can delete portions of the text between those two markers if you don't want to quote the entire message.

While I do appreciate that sentiment, the truth is that once the archives grow and grow, the "search function" can be very useful to people if used correctly. It, however, can be extremely frustrating if used incorrectly.
I know the perception is otherwise, but I would include several links along with the advise to use the search function. Really I would.

...but I've put that all behind me (suggesting the search function - not providing links)

...and yes... welcome YalkuHa

Indeed!

The search function serves its purpose, when used properly. However, many people are new to discussions forums and may not know how to use the search feature properly. I did a search yesterday for the words "Roo Do" but was told my searches needed to be 4 letters or more. I was denied, and I KNEW what I was looking for.

However, the biggest problem I have with telling people to use the search feature is that some things become outdated quickly. For example, if someone does a search for HC Carnes de Monterrey, reads all about the wonderful arrachera, and goes to their location on 1 Sur to partake of it, they would eat at one of HC's competitors and may have a different experience than they read about. If they simply asked "Where's the best arrachera?" in a new thread, they'd get up-to-date information. Besides, everyone likes to talk about food again and again, don't they?

And yes, putting links to past posts will be quite useful. It's a mundane task, I know, but I think it would be greatly appreciated.

And, it's a lot less effort to ignore a post than to reply with "Did you try using the search feature?" or "Are you serious?"

By the way, Rick, thanks for joining us.
