Default Parque La Ceiba Trip Report

Last Wednesday, a new park opened in the Ejido section of Playa. This is big news for us parents who are always looking for new ways to entertain the kiddies.

So, we went to check it out, today. As a little background, the park is meant to be "green" in that it uses a lot of recycled material. It is also sponsored by area businesses, including the biggest donor, Xcaret.

Warning: This report contains scenes of my beautiful family. If you are sick of seeing them, please move on.

THE FIRST HALF HOUR

Here the plaque at the entrance.

And, the sign recognizing the corporate help.

First stop, Jungle Gym

Mom gets in on the action

The used tire hut

HALF HOUR 2

We moved on from Recycleland to wood carving toyland.

At this point, we were really thirsty, so we hit the snack bar. No pics, sorry. However, as well as sodas and chips, they carried lots of different pastries and cakes from La Pasteleria, the best bakery in town. The volunteers working there said that they would soon be carrying some deli type sandwiches and other delights, as well.

HALF HOUR 3

Walking we went. The park is the size of a large square Ejido block. We ran across the more adult oriented obstacle course.

and then found the Fruit Loops display

and the mini cenote rest area

We sat in the shade and enjoyed the sprinkler system as it intermitantly shot water on us,

Finally, HALF HOUR 4

The park also boasts a mini theater, where there are scheduled storytelling sessions, dancing exhibitions and lectures on the environment and nature

and an art gallery

The windows show how recycled bottles can add to the fun

Also, the Mayan family is celebrated in its own room

An area where new plants are given their start

and, finally, a close by area to recycle all the crap that leaves our house

.

The government of Playa and the participating sponsors should be proud of what they have done. We'll be going back, for sure.

Thanks for posting this, Mark! I went on Monday as well, but without the cute kids, my pics did not come out nearly as well as yours. I thought the park was really cool, especially for the kids. Although, I was a little disappointed that it didn't have a nice open green space like the parks in the bigger Mexican cities do. I really miss green spaces!

This is the restaurant you said you didn't have a picture of.

Was the tire swing section open when you were there? They were still working on it Monday morning.

Yes, the tire swings were open. From what the volunteers were telling me, there will be a bigger, nicer park put in the area around Plaza las Americas. Should be more green areas there. The trees were nice, to block the sun, though.

Off the highway, go into the Ejido on Juarez. Two blocks, hang a left. A couple more blocks and you will see it.

Hi Maureen, The park is at 1a Sur and Calle Diagonal 60. Not that there's any street signs though. You'll want to go west on Juarez towards the Ejido. Make the 2nd left past the highway. Then turn right on the first street. This is where the entrance to the park is.

We'll try to get it on the map soon. Have fun!

Thank you so much for posting this PdS. Your boys are beautiful and we all love to see your pics. I have 2 Mexican grandsons that your boys remind me so much of.

What a great park....and I am so grateful that children will learn the importance of recycling and the environment. Let's hope the kiddies can teach the adults all about it!

My wife told me that the Ceiba tree is the same tree that is connected with the mural at Luna Blue. Men are not supposed to walk close to them, because that is where the "Mayan Goddess of Tease" hangs out.
