Many of the dance/night clubs here have 2 sections to give you an option once you get in the door.
La Santenera - Their indoor, late night house and techno dance club is on the lower level. It is very dimly lit, with the exception of the bar area and a few other spots. Their outdoor area is located on the upper level. It is more like a lounge than a dance club. They have live DJs throughout the week. I believe the outdoor area is open until 1am, and the indoor area is open til 6am. Blue Parrot - Their main outdoor dance floor is located right on the beach. They play a wide variety of music ranging from Reggaeton to Hip-hop to 90's dance music. Their other dance area is located under a palapa on the other side of the bar and has a live DJ playing house and techno music. Kick off your shoes, as you'll be dancing on their beach dance floor. Deseo - Trendy outdoor lounge. Not sure of the music as I haven't been there in ages. Retro - I've heard they have an upper and lower level, although I've only ever visited the upstairs club. They play retro music - think 80's and 90's. They have live DJs and they take requests. Depending on the day, a lot of these clubs have Ladies' Night specials where you can drink free all night or for a 2-3 hour window. These days change, so your best bet is to walk around during the day and find out which club has the best special for the evening. There are a few new clubs in town that I have not yet visited. One of them is called Classico Playa, a "disco boutique" (whatever that is) - it is located between Deseo and the Blue Parrot on Calle 12. I hope that helps. Please report back with your opinions on these places, as I'm sure others would like to know where the 23 year old chicas like to hang out.

We were all set to go to Classico this morning, but while trying to decide to pay the 50 peso cover at 2am, we milled around outside for 5 minutes. The only activity we saw was 5 guys leaving. We decided it was probably dead and opted to go to El Cielo instead. Classico still remains a mystery to me.
El Cielo had no cover and they had a good crowd outside in their lounge area. Their indoor dance floor was vacant for the 2 hours we were there. |
