That sounds really cool, Michele. Are they doing the show every night of the week?

That sounds cool, but does that mean Tulum is now going to be updated with light poles, sound system and modern day tech?? That would suck if all the stuff was visible. Nothing beat a great Mayan site like a modern day light pole and wiring

the original poster of this news is Tulum at Night - www.todotulum.com - Tulum articles, Tulum pictures galeries, Tulum videos
if you want more information this is an oficial press release i've found here: World News: Mexico's Tulum archaeological site to open at night

Mexico City, Jan 29 (EFE).- Tourists soon will be able to visit the Mexican archaeological site of Tulum at night thanks to the installation of a new lighting system, which is intended to reduce the flow of daytime visitors, the National Institute of Anthropology and History, or INAH, said.

Tulum, located on Mexico's Caribbean coast in the state of Quintana Roo, is the site of a pre-Columbian Maya walled city that during the high season is visited by as many as 8,000 tourists a day, the INAH said.

"The use of the nighttime schedule will diversify the entry (of tourists) throughout the entire day, which will be an element that helps preserve Tulum," INAH archaeologist Adriana Velazquez said.

Visitors will be able to participate in 40-person nighttime tours lasting about 45 minutes. A pre-recorded audio guide and a audiovisual presentation also will be available to enhance the experience.

The starting date for the tours will be determined during the first quarter of the year. It is expected that the nighttime visits will begin on the days when the number of tourists is at its peak and will increase gradually thereafter.

The new system will illuminate Tulum's main monuments, including the Castle, the House of Cenote, the Temple of the Frescoes, the House of Halach Uinic, the House of Columns and structures belonging to the House of Chultun.

The energy-efficient lamps used to illuminate the site were placed in such a way that they will not have a negative impact on the archaeological zone.

"No excavations were carried out. The cables were laid on the surface, the lights are superimposed and on the paths they were given the appearance of rocks," the INAH said. EFE

the shows have allready started and are fantastics

They have these light shows at Chichen Itza and Uxmal an dyou can't see any poles or wires or anything. They have done it very well in those places, so I'm sure they'll do the same at Tulum.
I'm anxious to see it.
