Sorry T, I was bitten last year just inside my trunks. they called it agua malo - is this the same thing? I was told by one of the locals to put vinegar or urine on it! I can still see Renee's face when I told her she had to pee on me In her own way she said she would go in a cup and that what I did then was my business...

So you have to figure how many (literal) hours you and/or the kids will actually be spending in the water. Thinking along those terms, the bottle might last longer than you think.

Check it out: Questions about Safe Sea?lotion
Yes, that's true how it reads, but if you think about it once you apply it, it is applied and used up whether you are in the water for that long a period of time or not. So that's why I was just going by the actual applications. They say a 4oz bottle is good for about four full body applications on an adult (which seems reasonable thinking about an ounce of lotion) so that is at most four days at the beach per bottle. Since my kids are older, I"d say they run about the same size as an adult also. So if we all used it, we'd be going through one bottle a day for all of us. That's $15 a day. Yikes!

My first trip to Playa I was stung on my foot by a sea urchin. One of the beach workers of our hotel said someone should pee on it. I was all and NO WAY. Well, after about a half hour, I really wished I had let someone pee on it. That was one painful sting.

I suppose you could always pee on it yourself!

Antihistamines do the same to me also, except for Benadryl. I do feel bad for you. You have had several health issues this past year. You and Sarita have been unlucky that way.

And by the way, urine is sterile. So it's not so gross if you think about it that way.

Ginger, I was wondering if perhaps you could speak to your daughters' dermatologist and find out from him/her what they would recommend.
Perhaps there is something else that would be available that is not as costly.

Small red bumps like the measels. They itch and burm like crazy. Hydrocortizone cream, vinegar, salt water are all recommended to stop the burn. None of them really work.

We have always heard...and practiced...the claim that slathering up with sun tan lotion before going in the water keeps these nasties from biting. However on this day we went early before the sun was high and of course skipped the lotion. Not again. So be careful out there.

Personally, I tend to coat my body with rendered lard prior to going to the beach. Only downside is that the sunburn takes about 90 seconds for me to "crisp up" and if I play on the beach I end up looking like a powdered donut. Upside - no sea lice!

Okay, seriously... You may want to think about trying prednisone cream, for Tony. Easy to find at any pharmacia (I just bought some when I was down a couple of weeks ago.) I think you might find it will take away the sting, itch and bumps REALLY fast. Just a thought.

Actually, that's a great idea Nora, and she has an appt. with him before we go so she can stock up on some creams and meds in case of inflammation and a flare up when we are down there, and also to see about some cryotherapy for the molluscum. I'll ask him about it then. Thanks for the idea!

Eating well is the best revenge and uni is pretty tasty. And it's never cheap at the sushi bar.

I guess sea lice doesn't like me. Never had a problem. Now, A sun rash is a different story but I have learned to avoid that. They both look and feel alike.
