If you want to stay in the town of Tulum, we stayed at the Posada Luna del Sur last year for a couple of nights. A block off of 307. Clean rooms, nice owners, $90 a night, a short Taxi ride to the beach. Got the "Best Deal" in Tulum award.http://www.hotelstulum.com/Luna_del_Sur/default.htm

We've also stayed in one of the little beachfront casitas at Zamas a few years ago. That was cool too. The only thing that bothered hubby is that the bed felt very damp because of it's location being so close to the crashing waves. One of the great perks is that they have such a good restaurant (Que Fresco). Breakfasts are excellent and they always have live entertaiment for dinner in the evening. Such a romantic setting for a nice dinner.
Oh...I should probably warn you that their margaritas will bite you in the ars. Be very careful.

![]() I'm a wee bit skeered of the arse biting margaritas though. Oh, well....what happens in Mexico, stays in Mexico.

but DH couldn't imagine not having a pool and a bar. LOL.
But we got such a good deal on La Tortuga I'm thinking we could stay a night in Tulum, perhaps when PDC will be overrun on the weekend.... Shambala gets mixed reviews. Posada Luna is not on beach but in town but gets great reviews. Hemingway, La Conchitas, and Zulum get consistently good reviews as does Nueva Vida. [DH almost conceded to Zulum but the toilet open to the room and pool being green sometimes turned me off for a long stay]. La Zebra looks cool but some complain that it's more bar than hotel...Mezzanine also looksk cool but they have a Fri night party that goes on all night long so keep that in mind. I have a couple questions... Beach location...Is there a location that's better? I hear some people prefer the southern area...but South of what? I would like to have a beautiful view [I'm really going to miss seeing the ocean while at La T] and be able to walk to beach bars etc. And if I were to stay 1 night, would Friday or Saturday be better to avoid crowds at PDC? Thanks. |

Hi Michelle! Some friends and I stayed at Hemingway last May, and LOVED it. It's very close to everything, and rooms are great(but rustic if that's OK), and I'd definitely recommend it. PM me if you want more details, I'm pretty sure I have a slideshow on Shutterfly of the place. |
