Default transport from playa to akumal

We are going to be taking the bus from cancun to playa and heading down to akumal. Would anyone be good enough to tell us what the normal cab fare is or suggest alternatives? How much hassle is it to hook up with a collectivo (sp?) from the bus station. Thanks!

Hey Dean I think cab fare is around $40.00 for a taxi. If i were you, i would experiance the colectivo. 2 bucks will get ya there.

I am sure Babaloo will chime in for directions for the colectivo station

Definately, colectivo is the way to go! It's fun, cheap and easy ... like a few people I know! Can't remember where they were though ... sorry ... not too far from Mom's Hotel I think.

The colectioves are on calle 2 and 20th right side of the street. If u are going snorkling have fun . We renting our gear from the Dive shop closes to the road going in. $20 a person for gear a boat and guide. The guides nick name is Choloo he knew were all the fish ,turtles, rays, squid, sharks were lol. The best snorkling i have ever done. The boat holds about 5 or 6 people at the most. Have fun. We used the ADO bus from 5th & Juarez. Cost about $4.00 apiece, and was an air conditioned, clean, Greyhound-like bus that dropped us off on the highway 1/4 mile from the beach. I'd recommend this over a more expensive cab ride.

You would not be able to use a colectivo with luggage, though, correct? We are staying in Puerto Aventuras so I figure colectivo to Playa then taxi back after dark. Day trips up and down 307 most definitely will be by colectivo.

I was wondering the same thing...about the luggage..if it's just a day trip, take the colectivo, if your hauling alot, take the bus.

I already secured USA Transfers for airport to Puerto Aventuras and back to Casa Magna in Cancun. There is no way you could "jump" on a colectivo with luggage for a 2 wk stay. We take the ADO to Playa from airport usually but with heading further south this trip I got the RT transpo. They also will stop at grocery store for a fee on the way down. It is hard enough to pile in the vans for a day trip to Akumal or Tulum with coolers etc! Does anyone know if it is walkable from Puerto Aventuras to Paamul beach? Or I would imagine it would be a very inexpensive taxi ride. On another note I read about Edy the fisherman, does he still take people out from Playa for half day fishing?

No...it is not walkable...well, it is if you have A LOT of time.
I would think a taxi from PA to Paamul should be no more than $5

10 pesos to Paamul from PA by colectivo? That seems the way to go then. How long is the walk in to the beach area from 307? Or should we just take a taxi and be dropped off and hope for a return pick up?
