Ditto that......we almost bought some property there about 8 years ago....but the more research I did the more it seemed like courting disaster. So now I have beachfront property in Nicaragua instead.......but with Ortega in power.

We went to Tulum today for the day. I can tell you that it looked like some, if not MOST, hotels from the main road to the ruins were CLAUSARADO, or in other words, shut down.

Diamonte K was reopened. El Paraiso, completely shut down with yellow police tape all the way around. No restaurant, no beds, no chairs.....nada.

We pulled down the next driveway after Paraiso, found some shade under a palm tree. Also, the snorkel tour boats are hurting big time from the drop in customers. We got a 2.5 hour snorkel tour of two great spots on the reef (photos will be in my blog) for $30!!!!! We tipped each guy 50 pesos though because we felt bad and it was such a good deal, still all of us got out for $45 US or so. Spectacular deal.

Hey guys...

FWIW, Mezzanine is completely for business. Apparently they have better lawyers with more juice than those for El Paraiso.

If anyone is looking for a very nice alternative to El Paraiso, I would suggest Ana y Jose beach club, a bit further south. (Sorry I couldn't get this info to you before you went to Tulum the other day Ginger!)

To get to Ana y Jose, you simply take the beach access road from the north end of Tulum pueblo (where the super San Francisco is) in toward the beach. Instead of turning left like you would to go to El Paraiso and Mezz, turn right and go down about 2 km or so. Ana y Jose is a pretty nice place. Check it out:

Wow. El Paraiso closed. Bummer. We went there in May...well, we parked our butts about 100 yards north of them.

Tulum has the most beautiful beach I have ever been to. I hope they never develop it like they have Playa.

According to Por Esto, they shut down La Vita e Bella and La Condesa, yesterday.

So does this make it seven properties that have been expropriated? Wow, I wonder if it will end with the latest two acquistions? I've been hearing for years that they want to close the cabañas and run the hippies out of Tulum. I hope that this isn't what this is.
