Some of our group took colectivos to Xpu Ha, so you shouldn't have a problem taking a cab there. You may have to walk from the carretera to the beach, but it's only about 1/2 mile.
The entrance we took to the beach has an entrance fee of $25 pesos, which is returned if you eat at the restaurant and show your receipt when exiting. The white plastic lounge chairs are free if you purchase food. Nicer fabric chairs (that don't recline all the way) are an additional $50 pesos for the day, and some ultra-fancy ergonomic chairs (they look like they are from Herman Miller!) go for an additional $100 pesos for the day. When we got to the beach at 11am, there were a good number of chairs available, but our group grabbed the last remaining ones. As far as the restaurant goes... The beer was cold. The food was quite good, with the exception of some tortillas I got that were stale. The service was friendly and attentive. The suggested service charge (10%) was put on the bill but was not factored into the total. I'll post the menus later today. The beach clubs at La Playa Xpu Ha and the Catalonia Resort were a bit crowded, but walk 1 or 2 minutes away in either direction for the beach clubs and you were away from any crowds. The majority of the beach isn't manicured like the ones in Playa, but the seaweed isn't too bad (as you can see in the photos). The wind was strong enough for some kiteboarders to be playing around, and there was enough surf for a few boogie boarders to be out and about. All in all, a really fun day. I highly recommend it! |

I bought the same camera and love it also. The colors are really nice. Looks like you had a great day at the beach. Where do you get off the colectivo? I'd like to do that in a couple of weeks.
Waiting inpatiently.... |

I have GPS coordinates for the entry point (20.4771, -87.26167), if that helps you. It looks like it's 2 entries past the Catalonia. |

I can almost feel the sand between my toes!
I have the same camera as my "take everywhere" camera. Didn't want to take the Canon Rebel to Mexico so I bought the Panasonic as more or less a point & shoot. Great easy camera. Hey, where's Lenny in the pics?????? |
