Yal-ku is the same as always - beautiful and natural with great snorkeling. We think the cost has been raised to $75 pesos.

yep, we were there last week. It was 75 pesos per adult. It was pouring rain but we had a blast - lots of fish and the grounds are beautiful! It was my favorite day of the trip, even though the downpours were torrential! We were already wet and in the water so the rain didn't matter! Definitely go!

If you plan on going, please put on environmentally friendly sunblock before arriving. If they catch you putting on sunblock in the park, regardless of it's environmentally friendliness, they will make you shower it off before entering the lagoon.
disclaimer:I'd even suggest wearing a t-shirt instead of putting on gobs of sunblock - every little thing helps maintain the health of the corral and the fish. |

FWIW, the sign there actually says "No Sunblock". We were fortunate in that it was raining cats and dogs , so we just jumped right in with no fear of getting burned!

If they follow the same rules as Xel-Ha, Xcaret or Garrafon you can use Caribbean-Sol There are other biodegradeable products out there that you can use also. I recommend this one becasue they are the people that used to bottle these park's sunscreen that was sold at the parks, so I know it's acceptable.
They say you can use anything that says biodegradeable on it and doesn't contain any of these things: Octocrileno Benzofenona Butil metoxidibenzoilmetano Hexilodecanol Dimetil capramida Cetil dimeticona Metilparabeno Polietileno Propilparaben Butilcarbamato. |

Yalku is fantastic! I live just 60 seconds from the lagoon and love listening to the happy sounds of the snorkelers. The oohs and aahs are incredible. The earlier in the morning you go, the better. Afternoons are very busy.

We were at Yal-Ku in November and we actually went around 1 ish and at first it was crowded and then they all left and we were the only ones there. It was great, I went to Yal-Ku about 8 or 9 years ago when you just got in on the rocks and it was always so slippery and dangerous. The stairs are nice and I love all the statues they added.

In November there were a lot of fish, you could just see them at the foot of the ladders. The best ones I saw were around the little island in the middle and then around to the left along the shelf of the shore. I saw one really really big fish, do not know what it was but it was white and a monster, did not expect is around all the little ones. My mother in law is 62 and she learned to snorkel for the 1st time in her life in Yal Ku, great for beginners. We first started to teach her to snorkel in Akumal Bay so she could see the turtles but it was a rough day and she always tells people we tried to drown her. She was in 4 ft of water and could stand the whole time but I think the waves crashing on her head scared her a little
