Default Hotels south of Tulum

Good Morning All,

After a few days in Playa, I plan to rent a car and drive south for about 5 days. I've looked for hotels south of the Tulum area but am seeing very little, mainly ecoresorts in the Biosphere area. I am looking for simple budget type hotels since we really only use them to sleep.

Oh by the way I plan to go as far as Punta Allen, which may not be that far at all...so is driving back to Tulum for a hotel the way to go?

Thanks,
Gabe

Default Sian Kaan Lodging

There are only a few accommodations in Sian Kaan on the way to Punta Allen. They tend to be more expensive because of their relative seclusion. For budget accommodations, Tulum will be your best bet.

In the order that you'll encounter them on the Boca Paila road:

CESiaK Cabins - These cabins are just a few miles into the Biosphere. This is where the tower is.
Boca Paila Fishing Lodge
Xamach Dos
Sol Caribe

Default Punta Allen Hotels

Cuzan Guesthouse

Posada Sirena

Serenidad Shardon

Thought there were more, but that's all I can come up with for now.

Im headed to Punta Allen this May and have looked into all of the hotels Libby mentioned. She is right, between Tulum and Punta Allen the accomodations are expensive! However, all the Punta Allen hotels she mentioned do offer budget accomodations.

The Cuzan Guesthouse offers $40-$50 cabanas and has an onsite restaurant. Upon an email to them, the American owner was more than happy to reserve something for me at that price.

Serenidad Sharon offers stand up tents as cheap as $15 a night (shower facilities included right outside the tents) and also rooms for about $60 and up. The also have kayacks (double and single) available for guests. On the website they do have a US number (the owners son in Michigan) who answers any questions you have and can assist in booking.

Posada Sirena is across the street from the beach. (The others, right on the water.) Her prices are in the $45-$50 range. She offers an honor policy, no down payment for a reservation- just come and pay. I have heard mixed reviews on this place- but it may work for you!

I can strongly recomend Xamach Dos! If they have any open dates that is.

We also got a tour of Serenidad Shardon when we were in Punta Allen. It was very vice with a very friendly owner who helped us find some fresh fish.

Has any one stayed at Xamach Dos for a short stay? I got a response stating that there is a 3 night minimum, but that was through a travel agency.

Thanks.

While we were at Xamach, Margo told us that they will allow a shorter stay if it works out between longer reservations, to fill the gaps. Try the email address on their web site, they might just have a gap when you would want to stay there.

IMHO, you should try to book at least 3 days at Xamach as it is a very hard place to leave.
