Default Gardening Tips and Photos

So I've finally got around to weeding my little vegtable patch. There was this green ground cover with little purple flowers that I let go all spring because I thought it was pretty. Now that I'm tilling, I realize it is the mint I planted last year. Everywhere! It has taken over. Is this normal? Even I can't drink that many Mojitos!

If you have pics of your garden or any tips, please post them here!

I just planted some perennials yesterday to give some color to my front as my spring/summer flower are not yet in full bloom. I added new mulch and it looks pretty damn good if I say so myself. No pics yet though. I had mint growing up as a kid along the side of the garage. I dried it one time and it was the first thing I ever smoked. How dumb is that.

Ill try to get pics later but yes mint can completely take over....mine has taken over numerous areas....trying to keep it under control is difficult.

Yep, completely normal for mint to do that Mel. I'll take some pics of my place over the next few weeks as I (I use the term "I" loosely, lol) get it knocked back into the shape it was before I started abandoning it for travelling all over the place.

Top Tip #1: get a handymanblokeperson in to help you with it like I've done (my fireman guy is here tending the lawns as we speak)...

She didn't last year. But this year she also killed a baby bunny at my Mom's.

She's totally turning into Dottie, btw.

But the mint smells so nice when you mow it down. I like it snipped up in salads and on some sandwiches, too.

It never lasts more than a year or two for me here in Florida.

Mint will take over EVERYWHERE!! Sink a container and plant in that to keep it contained.

I'm so excited my Black Eyed Susan's bloomed!! Yippee!!

We planted them for the first time last year and weren't sure how they would do this summer...but they bring lots of color to our yard....most of my plantings are hostas and such...I am all about the perennials!!

We planted some tomato and pepper plants...they are just starting to come in so I will snap a pic when I have some red ones!

If the mint likes the area it's planted in, it totally takes over. I planted it off by itself in a little area down at our cottage so it can totally take over and will be plenty for mojitos. The mint does smell really good when it is mowed. It also smells really good in a cut flower arrangement. MsRubio - love your Black Eyed Susans! Here's a picture of one of the garden areas in our back yard. The Sweet Williams totally took over this area last year but they are so colorful. They are biennial and there are only a few this year.

Here are some pics of my garden.

Summer has arrived that the garden has started to respond.

Can't wait for the sweet corn, beans, carrotts, broccoli, tomatoes, and pumpkins. We have aready had some potatoes, pea pods, and lettuce. Nothing better than fresh produce!

My tomato plants.... should produce plenty for salsa!

Some of Shanda's flowers in the backyard.

Thanks lovbuds and ginger.

Shanda works quite a bite with the flowers but the veg. garden is pretty much me. I think it is easier to do than the flowers. This is only the 2nd year for the veg. garden..... I think I learned a lot last year of what NOT to do.

As far as work goes, it's not to bad. I find it a great stress reliever (sp?) to go back to the garden and spend 2 beers weeding.
