Default (UK) reality TV talent shows...

A couple of reality TV talent contest shows wrapped up here in the UK this weekend - the casting of Nancy for the forthcoming West End production of Oliver! and the final of this year's Britain's Got Talent (the one that Paul Potts won last year). As I know a lot of you liked Paul Potts last year, and a few have commented previously on a young choirboy Andrew Johnston in this year's competition - I thought some of you might like to see these.... Soooo.... for all you reality TV talent contest lovers out there...!!!

A series of reality shows that have been running the last couple of years here in the UK have featured Lord Andrew Lloyd Webber searching for and casting the lead role in major West End musicals. We have already had shows casting Danny and Sandy in Grease, Maria in The Sound of Music, and Joseph in Joseph! (phwaaaaaaar Lee Mead!!!!) and the winners all went on to critical acclaim. Well, finishing last night was the current series - casting x3 boys (child employment laws in the UK require a x3 job share) to play the role of dickensian orphan Oliver, and casting the role of Nancy (the fiesty but domestically abused girlfriend of villian Bill Sykes, who becomes surrogate mum to the orphans) for the forthcoming production of Oliver!.
The x3 boys that will be playing Oliver: Harry, Laurence and Gwion (Gwion, the little blond one, is my fave - a right old heart melter he is!)

The girl that won the role of Nancy: Jodie
(The runner up btw [who all the judges thought was born for the role]: Jessie)

Remember the contest that Paul Potts won last year? Well here, in reverse order, are the results of the final of Britain's Got Talent 2008:
3rd place: Andrew Johnston

2nd place: Signature (personally my fave - I would have loved to have seen them do this at the Royal Variety Performance!)

Winner: George Sampson

ENJOY!!!!!

(PS.... I think this guy is my equivalent to redhairgirl's addiction to Clay.... more Lee Mead - this time with his kit off!!!! )

I didn't think that there was any talent in the UK.

I think Andrew Johnston sounded like a angel that people picked on.

Jakob and I just watched all the links, and that Lee guy is outstanding!! See, i am a sucker for great voices as well. That's where the Clay part comes in.

We also loved The Oliver clip, and decided we liked the little blonde one the best! Too cute!

Jenny.... you mentioned to me in private that you couldn't see Lee doing the winning Joseph song because it came up "not available in this country". I think that might have been because it was an official BBC link. Try this one.

Incidentally.... here is some footage from Lee's first audition, which when you read on becomes quite poignant.....

Hahahaha.... I remember on finale night when he was announced the winner, I had a houseful of "the girls" and I remember saying when we saw the camera pan to the audience and his girlfriend there clapping away to the music, I remember saying "well, her days are numbered now". The others called me all the cynical bitches under the sun......

Well, he dumped her come the September, and as of December? Well.... check this ******* out!!! Lucky cow!
