May I ask where you stayed & what the price was, I have those places on my list. Is it budget friendly? I'm always looking for other places to go.

We stayed right in Philipsburg, which is the capital of Sint Maarten. It's on Great Bay. Our hotel was called the Sea Palace. Nice big room and great view. Not an AI by any means, but a nice place with the beach on one side and busy Front Street on the other. The town is just so cool. We were only 20 minutes from Orient Beach and about 15 to the airport and a few minutes longer to the beaches on the French side. We drove around the whole island in less than 3 hours with stops. The trip to Anguilla was just heaven. That is one place we want to go back to for a week. We had a few expensive dinners, $100 plus for the two of us, with apps. and drinks thrown in. You can definately eat on the cheaps at all the beachside lolos or barbeque stands or go to the grocery store and pick up stuff to cook in your room. We ate in a few times and made simple things like chicken helper and had bagels and eggs for breakfast most mornings.

Hope that helps and ask away if you have any more questions.

How did you like the approach into SXM?

Fortunately we landed at night and also departed at night
because when we saw that airport on one of our trips
around the island I was

We stayed on Orient beach.
It is just beautiful there.
Have to get up the nerve to fly in again.
I'd love to go back.

I remember you & Phyllis telling us that Anguilla was your most favorite place.
Maybe someday we'll make it over there. Maybe someday we could go together and you could show us the ropes.

Thinking about you and Phyllis right now. xo

The approach in is way cool!! We hung out at the Sunset Beach Bar a few times and had the opportunity to take some vids and pics of the planes coming in. One plane I swear was no more than 20' above my head. When we departed we must have freaked those on the beach out a bit, as our plane was to heavy to take off inland so we actually took off over the water, which we didn't see any other planes do the whole time we were there. That might be even freakier, standing there on the beach and seeing this 747 coming right at ya!! We visited Orient Beach, the southern end and it was the most enjoyable beach experience of my life!!

I can see why Anguilla would top anyones list of favorite places. For me it's a toss up between Aruba and Anguilla as well. Guess I might have to check out Antigua and see which 'A' I like the best

You liked Aruba Streck? We've never been there but some friends told us that they were surprised to find Aruba not very clean. Is that true? That was a few years ago, mind you.

I never thought it wasn't clean. I'm sure if it was dirty, trash strewn I would have noticed. I thought inland was very beautiful and the main drag around the island and hotels/beaches very clean. Aruba was brought up on the oil industry, so down near the refinery town I remember it being kinda old, but I wouldn't say dirty. Hell, driving inland to Coba and Chichen Itza I thought it was dirty and very poor, but it's just the way the natives live I guess. Anyplace with a beach and sea nearby can't be dirty to me. I try to see the beauty in places where I'm at and not see past the poverty and lack of what we would call necessities

Thanks Streck...the slideshow took me back...Saint Maarten was the first place I ever vacationed with Commando, way back in the day before we got married. Probably 25 years ago...We stayed at the hotel where the beach backs up to the airport. Every day you'd see little kids standing along the fence waiting to be sandblasted when the big jets fired up their engines. It was the funniest thing ever. What a great trip that was!

We stayed in Antigua for a week a few years ago. While the price was right, it was not the prettiest island. Did not seem clean, the beaches were just OK...nowhere near my favorite place ever. Saint Maarten was 1000 times prettier and more fun. Never been to Anguilla, except to pick up passengers on our flight home, but it sure looks beautiful!
