It is four times because their Jan/Feb trip is one 5 week trip. They have asked us to come and see them when they are there but they have never offered to pay for it so thats why we have never gone.
![]() But really if we went to Hawaii we would have to skip our trip to the Roo and that isn't going to happen! |

Mike and I LOVE Hawaii. I've been to the Islands so many times that I have lost count now. I have been to Oahu, Maui, Kauai, and The Big Island. ALL the islands have unique things to offer. I think the BEST thing that we've done is bike down all the way from the very top of Haleakala (Maui) to the ocean. AMAZING trip! 37 miles downhill except for a TINY hill down towards the bottom.
We booked with a company that drives you up to the top and escorts you through the "park" portion at the summit. From that point on, you're on your own, and can take all the time you want to explore, have lunch, shop, whatever.... just as long as you get back before the shop closes at about 6pm or so. We also have done soaring with a company out on the North Shore of Oahu. Spectacular! Very reasonable too, if you book online before you get there. The volcanic eruptions, as well as the crater, lava, "moonscapes" and other sites on the Big Island are a MUST SEE! We stayed in a 100 year old cabin in the tiny town of Volcano which is up around 3000+ feet. We also did a VERY strenuous raft trip on Kauai that took us over to the amazing cliffs on the western side. This is the area that has been featured in movies such as King Kong and Juraissic Park. I have to say that the trip was the MOST strenous, passive activity that I have EVER experienced! We were able to lunch in an ancient Hawaiian encampment area that made it worth the trip we went through to get there. I love ALL the islands. However, I have to say that I like Oahu the best. We stay out by the North Shore in one of the little towns (close to Lai'e) near the Hawaiian Cultural Center and Brigham Young University. This side of the island is virtually "deserted" and you can have your pick of lovely beaches. Because there are more people on Oahu, and it's the government center of the Islands, you're able to get better deals on food and other items than you might find on some of the smaller items. It's sort of "trendy" to badmouth Oahu, but it is a GORGEOUS island! Rent a car for the time you're there and explore everything it has to offer!! I like to go to Hawaii during May, late September and October, as there aren't as many tourists that time of year. You can generally get a decent airfare too.... Check out some of the Hawaii slideshows we have at: MAISON-T-BAYOU Looking at the slideshows again and just talking about Hawaii makes me feel that a trip is in order!! I absolutely LOVE the islands!
