telemarketing.
Over the summer between 1st & 2nd years in college, picked this job up to make some extra cash. Sat at a desk in a basement office with 3 others, literally dialed numbers out of the phone book trying to sell 35 mm film + developing packages. I feel like crying just thinking about it. Thanks, zoom. |

Summer job the last year of high school. Worked on the eviscerating line in a poultry packing plant. I won't go into the job description. Not for a general audience. I lasted a week. Didn't eat chicken for about a year.

Night shift at the Ford Factory in Detroit. Worked the line making safety glass windows for cars. We would take a piece of glass plate in our bare hands (gloves might let the glass slip), cover it with an adhesive plastic and then pick up more plate glass to put on top making a "sandwich" before sending it into the furnace to be fired and melted into a single piece. Working the line sucks and is dehumanizing. And by the end of the night our hands would be cut to ribbons by the edges of the glass plates. And people ask me why I support the Union.

I have had some crappy jobs, but nothing too horrible.
I was at a party, once, in Washington DC, and chatted with the film director, John Waters. He told me about the absolute worst job I could imagine. It has to do with the porn industry. He even told me the post had a name, which made it even worse. I won't tell you what it is, unless you PM me. Too racy for the open forum.

Customer service at Toys-R-Us during Xmas time. Ugghh....2nd shift....which went into the evening/early morning hours when they used to stay open till 1:00am during that time frame. They would keep us till 3:00am to stock batteries, gum, candy and all the other stupid little toys at the check out. Then had to go to my regular day job at 7:00. Never again.

![]() I feel much better now. I couldn't figure out why you would think "fluffing" would be such a bad job. Of course it might be for YOU. ![]() ~Cheri

My worst job was when I was in high school. One summer I worked at an apartment complex cleaning apartments and getting them ready for the next renters. I hate to clean, especially hardwood floors!
I also would help out with maintaining the gardening around the complex if there were no apartments to clean that day. I hate to weed! I think to this day this is why gardening is not my thing. ![]() It was a hot, dirty summer.

Maintenance worker at a Community College. They got a grant to install storm windows and insulate their 100+ year old Administration Building. So, for minimum wage, I got to work on a scaffold 5 stories high and install storm windows that were as tall and wide as a compact car. Then, after we finished that job, I had to crawl around on my back under the building in almost total darkness and install fiberglass insulation. The damp, musty smell under that building was horrible, And the little pieces of fiberglass from the insulation that I was hanging falling down in my face was worse. And when fiberglass gets in your skin's pores you can't wipe it off. If you rub it, it irritates the skin and turns red. I would have to stand face-first under the shower for an eternity to get all that fiberglass out of my pores. I'll never forget that job!
