Default Hurricane Gustave

I am thrilled that LA got their act together this time. Mandatory evacs, the Guard is there, supplies are ready, and nobody will be able to trash the dome or the convention center. Of course Bush will still get blamed for the mess.

Everybody in Harms way, take care and be safe.

expecting cousins to arrive tonight!

John's cousin and her husband are in New Orleans right now! She was supposed to celebrate her birthday there on Saturday, then on Sunday they were going on a cruise that would stop in Progreso on the Mexico Gulf coast and then Cozumel. We were going to meet up with them in Progreso and then do a couple days of Yucatan sightseeing.

They're actually supposed to sail from Alabama because of the oil spill near New Orleans. Carnival says the cruise is still on, but I think it's going to get cancelled. Most importantly, I hope they're safe wherever they end up. I just called them and got no answer.

Poor New Orleans!!

We are watching the news and making plans - it looks like it is headed this way

Good luck, Tappy, and keep us posted while you can. We'll probably feel a little of Gustavo's effects up here in N. Alabama but nothing like what looks like's heading your way.

If they leave early Sunday and sail real fast.....they can outrun it...just depends is G turns more to the west. He is not due to make landfall till the early hours of Tuesday. The cruise people will have a better idea of where G is going to head tomorrow.

Stay safe Tammy....our weather guy thinks it will turn west and hit western LA. That may bring us some rain if G does that.

Actually, I meant to say they leave on Monday (afternoon), not Sunday. So, it'll be a close call. I just heard back from them. They're staying in New Orleans tonight, but they might be evacuated tomorrow.

Stay safe everyone!

I really don't think G will make a hit on NO...wishful thinking. G is still so far out there and has to pass over part of Cuba...anything can happen as far as where G will go.

So where is your best guess for the G spot?

Thanks Rita - I know the traffic is terrible right now and people are all ready turning back - I hope your cousins made it to your house.

The cousins are staying with another cousin here in town...(the one who has a full time maid)

So.. people are heading back to NO? I was a little worried..we are expecting 4100 evacuee in Dallas..if the storm shifts toward the western part of LA, then where are those people going to go? If it turns more towards Texas then there is a bigger problem of the Texas folks having somewhere to go.

domino effect...

Anyways... I know you will take all the precautions of staying safe. May there be little rain and wind in Lafayette!

Sunbaby - Glad your cousins are safe and pampered!

Tappy - What's your plan? Are you evacuating? Is it going far enough west of you that you think you'll be safe?

Our cousins' cruise got changed. They are now leaving on Wednesday instead of Monday and skipping Progreso. We were hoping to meet them in Progreso and do some exploring of the Yucatan, but now we will just be going to Cozumel again to see them. I'm just happy they're safe, though.
