Default Layover - Memphis - Where to Stay

OK folks,

We have a layover overnight in Memphis on our trip in 3 weeks. Where would those in the know recommend a place to stay. Do they have a shuttle , etc . We don't arrive until 10 pm.

Well, don't stay at Admiral Bimbos.....OMG!

Do try to go eat some ribs at the Rendevous. It's downtown near the Peabody Hotel...Yeah...stay there..it's famous!

nevermind.. you are getting into town too late for the Rendevous..but Beale Street is pretty cool.

Holiday Inn Select is located at the airport.....might be a good option since you will be arriving late in the evening. I've been to the Peabody Hotel and it is VERY nice and close to Beale Street.....however.....I don't know if you will have time to enjoy it.

I thought I'd throw in the link for the Peabody just for the heck of it.

And just in case you are hungry or want to see the restaurant Rita mentioned.

I've been to the Peabody too, and it is very nice, but I don't think it's a "one-night-layover" type place. I would stay as close to the airport as possible, especially since you're arriving late. I agree with Erica, The Holiday Inn Select sounds good.

Trivia note: The movie "The Firm", with Tom Cruise, was filmed in Memphis and there is a famous scene filmed on top of the Peabody hotel.

I lived in Memphis when they filmed it. They filmed a restaurant scene right next door to where I worked. Parking lot was chaos while filming though. Lots of security.....canvas tunnels from the trailer to the restaurant.......

Erica, that's so cool! Although I'm sure it was just a hassle for y'all at the time. It's a good movie, and I'm not really a fan of Tom Cruise or John Grisham. Do you remember the scene filmed on top of The Peabody?

I'm trying to remember. I read the book before watching the film.... I've been at the top of the Peabody......does that count for anything? Quack......Quack........as the ducks waddle through the hotel, enter the elevator to the top......

What do you mean hijack? Haven't we established you should not stay at The Peabody?

Seriously, it looks like it comes down to the Holiday Inn Select or the Radisson, take your pick. With a late-night arrival like this, there's no way I would go further from the airport. Hell, I would probably sleep in the airport.

Yeah! If I really wanted to hijack the thread I would have gone and on about Beale Street and how you shouldn't miss Mr. Handy's Blues Hall.
