Default What are Your Favorite Websites?

What are some of your favorite websites ...and why? You know, the ones you go to time and time again for either fun, information, or whatever. We thought it would be fun to start a thread & find out where people surf. (Please no porn sites, guys - that could be its own thread and/or forum!). It's always interesting to learn of cool new sites from other people. So, we'll start:
  • Journalist Express - www.journalistexpress.com
This is our browsing home page and was one of the first sites that we know of to allow you to add your own links (so that when you travel, all your "favorites" are easily accessible) -- all for free. Not only that, but it has links to tons of news sites (for Tony, the news junkie), and in the upper right corner of the page, they have an ever-changing link to cool and interesting websites.

  • Fightdivx - www.fightdivx.com
Whenever we order anything online, we always start with this page first. Not only do they have links to great deals (including online coupons, etc.) for just about any site you'd ever want to buy from, but most importantly, the site is run by Cheri's little brother, and this is how we show our support.

  • Seatguru- www.seatguru.com
Whenever we fly, we order tickets online and use this site to decide which seats to choose. It shows a map of all airplanes for the major carriers and tells you which seats are the best (i.e., which don't recline as much, which are right by an exit, which have limited window viewing, etc.).

  • Babel Fish- www.babelfish.altavista.com
When we need a quick language translation or just to check on something we think is correct, this is a great tool. It isn't always exact, as most translation tools aren't, but it has come in handy many times.

  • AP Wire - http://www.newsday.com/news/nationworld/wire/
Tony's #1 starting point for news.

  • Craigslist - www.cragislist.com
Nothing beats craigslist for a place to sell and buy stuff (not so much in Mexico, although there is a section for this general area). Started by a guy named Craig in San Francisco it now has sites for places all over the world. We have bought and sold cars, tickets, hotel rooms and time share weeks on craigslist, as well as given away tons of stuff when we were moving. It's free and easy to use.

  • TripAdvisor- www.tripadvisor.com
Whenever we plan a trip to anywhere, we always start with TripAdvisor when we do our research. It's invaluable for reading reviews--good and bad--about everything and every place you can think of in the realm of travel. It's not perfect, but it's a great starting point.

  • Weather Underground- www.weatherunderground.com
This is a great weather site. During hurricane season we check it almost every day, because their tropical coverage is better than anyone's. And when a hurricane forms, nothing beats Dr. Jeff's blog for figuring out which way it's going to go.

  • In The Roo- www.intheroo.com
Last but certainly not least...In The Roo. Not only does it have a kick-ass Playa del Carmen forum with an open and non-judgmental vibe to it, but it has the most up to date list of restaurants & more...and a place for people to review everything (not just hotels, but restaurants, etc.). We like it here.

Okay, now y'all add your favorites!

snopes.com for all the latest urban legends and other sundry stupidities; and for the irrational reassurance I need when I refuse to forward a chain email.

collegeconfidential.com is an INVALUABLE resource for anyone with children of that age. Their forums have been great for helping us wade through the options for our daughter, who wants to major in vocal performance and music education. Haven't surfed around the site much to see if they have an "off-topic" section.

aaa.com. AAA has the best road-trip planning software I have found.

ctweather.com has Connecticut-only weather forecasts, etc. Very handy, because we live in one of the little pockets that isn't quite NYC weather, and isn't quite Boston weather. Yay, someone pays attention to us!

I've become hooked on travelpod.com's Traveler IQ quizzes, damn them!

Slate I'll check in on weekly.

One thing I would love to find is a political chatroom where the participants have a sense of humor about themselves. The ones I've tried attached to Slate, or cable TV stations are kind of intimidating.

www.jigzone.com - this is how I waste a lot of time at work by doing jigsaw puzzles online.

http://www.perezhilton.com - OK, OK...I'll admit it. I'm a sucker for stupid celebrity gossip and nobody serves it up better than the man himself, Perez Hilton.

In The Roo - Duh! This one's a no brainer.

http://www.sirius.com/siriusinternetradio - Thanks to T&C, I spend all of my online time listening to Radio Margaritaville.

There are other sites like eBay and MySpace (yes, I have one ) that consume my time, but....

I'm going to check out the sites you guys have posted...I'm nosey like that.

All the local news sites.
Myspace
ESPN
CBS Sportsline
Fox Sports
In the roo
Cyclones.com
Cubs.com
my banking site

Sites I check often
You Tube
NWA.com

Seatguru is a new bookmark, nice one there!

Most of all, lately anyway, I google and bookmark home improvement sites. Everything from how to do something, to all the major hardware stores. I love reading some of the forums on the construction sites, they have been very helpful.

I love the Foodnetwork.ca as I love to cook and can always find great things to make for any occasion.
Also like Canadian weather cameras can look at weather all accross the country
In the Roo is on before I even have my coffee in the morning.
Any site that has games good way to pass a rainy day.

I think this is pretty funny and revealing how everyone's links show a bit about their personalities and obsessions. AND the lenghs some of us will go to to stave off boredom at work!

I like the way everyone has quite a few "practical" websites for information that's important to them. That's the biggie for me; all the information that's at my fingertips!

But I think I could have lived without knowing about the "time wasters." That jigsaw puzzle one is my first stop!
