Walking around Aventura Spa Palace in January 2008
Does anyone know what those chairs are called, we also saw them in Valladolid in the town square. Spanish influence, no?

In the UK they are most commonly referred to as "love chairs" or "lovers chairs" or "kissing chairs". I have also heard the "conversation chairs" reference from time to time too. They are a common sight in gardens of historic stately homes here. The origins I believe are definitely European, however date way way back in English history so may not actually be Spanish.

Edited to add: They are also found regularly in the Drawing Room or Garden Room of many historic homes too....

"The kissing chair in the centre of the room today was designed to facilitate marriage. Apparently the couple would sit together with a priest or chaperone in attendance."
