Exclamation Suggestions for Self-Moderation

It has occurred to us that there is a lot of concern over whether John & Libby’s philosophy of “self-moderation” of the forum will work. And what the heck does self-moderation entail, anyway? We suggest that this site adopt procedures similar to those we’ve experienced on other forums. In this way we can guarantee the smooth running of this forum and avoid interfering with the income of the ownership, their employees, their employees’ friends or their employees’ cousin’s great aunt in Ohio. The rules would be as follows:

1. Discipline will be enforced on an “infraction” basis. Violation of rules will result in the obtaining of an infraction. A member given more than three infractions will be summarily dismissed, banned from the board, and kicked off the island. The tribe has spoken.

2. The rules which cannot be violated are unwritten and should be known only to the ownership of the board, their moderators and their chosen representatives. Rules are subject to change at any time. Rules must be never be violated. Rules must never be discussed in public. (What’s the first rule of Fight Club….?)

3. A first infraction will result for any member who THINKS a disagreeable or disloyal thought. Self-moderation requires this member to give himself a one day time out. Failure to do so when a moderator thinks that a member has been thinking a bad thought will also result in an infraction.

4. A second infraction will result if the member actually gives voice to the disagreeable or disloyal thought. Or, if a moderator interprets a post as having given voice to a disagreeable to disloyal thought. A second infraction (commonly known as a Red Card, a Code Red, or a Red Rover) shall result in a 7 day suspension from the forum.

5. A third infraction will result if the member so disciplined asks WHY they are being disciplined. Ignorance of the unpublished rules are not a defense to violation of the rules. A third infraction (commonly known as a “Forced Vacation” or “FV”) shall result in a 30 day suspension from the board. However, if during that time the member makes a proper apologetic prostrated request of forgiveness to the owners or moderators, or you’re good friends with one of the “in” crowd, your suspension may be suspended. This is called the Paris Hilton exception.

6. Expulsion from the board will result only and solely if the conduct of the member has been so egregious, so unacceptable, so against the laws of man and nature as to be repugnant and reprehensible…or if the owners or moderators have decided they don’t like you. There is no appeal. There is no defense. You will be cast out to wander the wasteland like the unforgiven drooling dog that you are. May God have mercy on your soul, because we sure won’t. This is called being Black Balled. We can make a lot of comments here but we won’t.

These are just suggested guidelines. Please feel free to add your own if you think it will be of benefit to understanding the process of self-moderation.

Thank you, and have a nice day.

I don't know, T&C.....it sort of sounds like a board controlled by Leona Helmsley to me.

Yes, we are the owners and admins of In The Roo.

We started In The Roo to promote businesses here in Playa - originally restaurants, but now pretty much everything. Kind of like an online phone directory, with a virtual map, links to other useful websites, and eventually, lots of good (or bad) reviews. We added this forum for people to have a voice to talk to us and others about Playa.

There's more info about us and our site in the Roo News forum, if you need more to feed your curiosity.

And what is to be done with those forum members who get their friends drunk on excellent tequilla with still many hours to go before the New Year is in?

Why do you have to get personal and bring haircolor into this? I am deeply offended.
