Default LOST Theories

I thought I'd start a thread about theories of the show since I read the most interesting one I've ever heard tonight. There are a lot of theories out there. What is yours, or ones you have heard? Let's post our theories here, but not spoilers as in anything that has been released that is going to happen in upcoming shows. Just theories about story lines.

So the theory I read about has to do with the Hollow Earth Theory, a very old theory followed by some 19th century theorists and conspiracy theorists, some even today! Some even more bizarre beliefs of this theory are that we could even be living in a hollow earth ourselves, right now.

Anyway, here is what I read on one of the Lost sites (link follows)

Quote:
Hurley said he saw Charlie materialize by the Ho-hos. Then when he and Jack were playing Horse Jack only made it to H-O before calling it quits. That's three hos. Who says "Ho ho ho?" That's right Santa Claus. Where does Santa live? The North Pole.

You think I'm wacked right?

Well I may not be. There are alot of people and several websites devoted to a hollow earth theory -- that an opening exists at the North Pole, leading into a "hollow earth" or perhaps another dimmension of earth that we are unaware of. What made me consider this is I remember reading that Hitler, being obsessed with the occult, sent an expidition to the North Pole to find the opening and/or the ancient civilization theorized to exist there.

Here's a snippet I found while dooing a Google search:

Quote:
• In 1939, the Americans and Germans were in a race to explore and claim lands in Antarctica. President Roosevelt sent Admiral Byrd to the frozen continent to thwart any German claims to Antarctic lands in the Western Hemisphere. Hollow Earthers have proclaimed that this was actually a secret mission to beat the Nazis in the exploration of "the land beyond the poles."

That actually says South Pole but accoprding to legend expeditions were sent to both.

What if Oceanic 815 accidentally found a portal into this lost island? What if portals exist all over the world which lead there? Think Bermuda or Devil's triangle.

What if the Lost island IS in a magnetic snowglobe at the north pole?

A few more clues that may back this idea is that Polar Bears were housed at the Hydra station once. Polar Bears are found at the North Pole while Penguins are found at the South Pole.

Also, there was the Swan hatch and the incident. Obviously an electromagnetic anamoly occurred. The North Pole is obviously a strong source for EM activity and it is even believed that the earth has shifted on it axis thus changing the polarity of the planet -- think Magnetic North vs True North.

Lastly, the had to travel to the island via submarine perhaps becasue the magnetic snowglobe/island/dimmension is surrounded by vast fields of ice.

Also, at one point Hurley is drawing a picture of an Eskimo by an igloo. Penny's team seems to be in the Arctic. The Swan password is the joke about what one snowman says to the other.
Click Here to read more about the theory that is very interesting!

So do you have a theory?

Just the "usual" one- the Dharma Initiative was formed quite some years back (as it seems when we look at the instruction videos and given the fact that Ben was born on the island- if that is true) to change the equation reflected by "the numbers"- as explained in the Hanso/ Dharma videos.
Hence the station and most of the strange things on the island.
Oceanic crashed due to the trouble with the magnetic station (I doubt Ben made it crash for his surgery...... as in the episodes it seemed to me as if they only got info on the passengers after).

As we know some stations are closed due to experiments going wrong- but the project itself still goes on I guess. As Hanso is being kept captive maybe the goals of the project have changed (as in: world domination etc.) without those working on the island knowing it- which would explain the "newcomers" who also got the Oceanic folks off the island.
Who would then be the "good guys", trying to stop the project.

This would also explain why Jack wants to go back to the island in the last episode of season 3- maybe he found out more and wants to stop the experiments and let the others know that they are now working for the "bad guys".

The only holes this theory has are who is the guy in the dark hut (was his name Joseph?), what does Desmonds ex have to do with it all- and what is up with the weird things the Oceanic folks experienced before they got on the plane (Claire, Desmond).

Ho = 815

There's a sculpture of the HO in the mental hospital, too!

What struck me last night was that when 'Hurley was arrested he kept saying he was one of the Oceanic 6......what happened to everyone else? And how is it that he went with locke and kate and jack stayed together and yet all three of them made it back?

And at some point both he and hurley have made referrences to the fact that the Island wants them back or they should never have left....any ideas there?

I love to read all the theories but I have found that given enough time you can make most anything from the show "fit" the theory after the fact.

I don't have any real ideas about the whys and wherefore of this show, I just know I enjoy watching and re-watching it every episode. Maybe it's like magic, I love going to a magic show, I don't know how it works, I just know I like it.

Love the analogy!!!! I think it's spot on. I love the show, but at this point....who knows which way it will twist and turn?? I'll just hold on to my restraining bar.

I like just letting the show wash over me when it's going on and then going back and reading some of the analysis (and there is an amazing amount of analysis on this show! I am loving LostPedia right now, but it's intense. A person could get LOST in it!) I am always blown away by the minute details that people point out as meaningful in some way. I love my DVR for giving me the ability to go back and rewatch scenes and see these things in a different light. I mean...I never would have noticed the "HO" sculpture in the mental hospital rec room, or creepy hospital visitor's DHARMA tie! The writers seem to love throwing little details like that in there to create buzz on the many Lost forums. The first episode did not disappoint. I just hate that I have to wait a week for the next one!

I'm with you Eileencc. I just watch the show. Then I see all these cool theories and go wow. I would have never caught most of the little clues. So if the Oceanic 6 are the 6 who made it off the Island, who are they? So far we know it's Hurley, Kate, Jack, and the person in the coffin from last years show. See I did remember that. So that leaves two still unaccounted for. Maybe Sawyer, Kates "He'll notice I'm gone" from last year? He would make two from Lockes group.
