I thought I'd start a thread about theories of the show since I read the most interesting one I've ever heard tonight. There are a lot of theories out there. What is yours, or ones you have heard? Let's post our theories here, but not spoilers as in anything that has been released that is going to happen in upcoming shows. Just theories about story lines.
So the theory I read about has to do with the Hollow Earth Theory, a very old theory followed by some 19th century theorists and conspiracy theorists, some even today! Some even more bizarre beliefs of this theory are that we could even be living in a hollow earth ourselves, right now. ![]() Anyway, here is what I read on one of the Lost sites (link follows) Quote:
So do you have a theory?

Just the "usual" one- the Dharma Initiative was formed quite some years back (as it seems when we look at the instruction videos and given the fact that Ben was born on the island- if that is true) to change the equation reflected by "the numbers"- as explained in the Hanso/ Dharma videos.
Hence the station and most of the strange things on the island. Oceanic crashed due to the trouble with the magnetic station (I doubt Ben made it crash for his surgery...... as in the episodes it seemed to me as if they only got info on the passengers after). As we know some stations are closed due to experiments going wrong- but the project itself still goes on I guess. As Hanso is being kept captive maybe the goals of the project have changed (as in: world domination etc.) without those working on the island knowing it- which would explain the "newcomers" who also got the Oceanic folks off the island. Who would then be the "good guys", trying to stop the project. This would also explain why Jack wants to go back to the island in the last episode of season 3- maybe he found out more and wants to stop the experiments and let the others know that they are now working for the "bad guys". The only holes this theory has are who is the guy in the dark hut (was his name Joseph?), what does Desmonds ex have to do with it all- and what is up with the weird things the Oceanic folks experienced before they got on the plane (Claire, Desmond). |

What struck me last night was that when 'Hurley was arrested he kept saying he was one of the Oceanic 6......what happened to everyone else? And how is it that he went with locke and kate and jack stayed together and yet all three of them made it back?
And at some point both he and hurley have made referrences to the fact that the Island wants them back or they should never have left....any ideas there?

I love to read all the theories but I have found that given enough time you can make most anything from the show "fit" the theory after the fact.
I don't have any real ideas about the whys and wherefore of this show, I just know I enjoy watching and re-watching it every episode. Maybe it's like magic, I love going to a magic show, I don't know how it works, I just know I like it. |

I like just letting the show wash over me when it's going on and then going back and reading some of the analysis (and there is an amazing amount of analysis on this show! I am loving LostPedia right now, but it's intense. A person could get LOST in it!) I am always blown away by the minute details that people point out as meaningful in some way. I love my DVR for giving me the ability to go back and rewatch scenes and see these things in a different light. I mean...I never would have noticed the "HO" sculpture in the mental hospital rec room, or creepy hospital visitor's DHARMA tie! The writers seem to love throwing little details like that in there to create buzz on the many Lost forums. The first episode did not disappoint. I just hate that I have to wait a week for the next one!

I'm with you Eileencc. I just watch the show. Then I see all these cool theories and go wow.
I would have never caught most of the little clues. So if the Oceanic 6 are the 6 who made it off the Island, who are they? So far we know it's Hurley, Kate, Jack, and the person in the coffin from last years show. See I did remember that. So that leaves two still unaccounted for. Maybe Sawyer, Kates "He'll notice I'm gone" from last year? He would make two from Lockes group.
