Hey everyone! Thanks so much for all your prayers and thoughts! Thanks for taking the time to post them, I showed her the thread and she was very impressed!
The surgery went well, but they ended up having to excise a much larger area just to be sure, just in case the pathology came back 'funny' he wanted to be sure, instead of having to go back in. So she ended up getting quite a large area of skin grafted out of her groin area and onto her foot. She did well through it all, but had a bit of an emotional time when coming out of it all. She was quite out of it (obviously) and they came to talk to me when she was in the initial recovery room because they said they were a little concerned about her as she was very upset, crying, tearful, etc. They said this often happens with girls at this age (hormones, and all) but just wanted to talk to me about it. I explained about my mom and all that was going on with Kelsey in regards to that, and they did a big, "Ahhhhhh! I see." So obviously this was affecting her subconscious somewhat and even though she wasn't really awake, she was suffering through some emotions. So they gave her some sedation to settle her a bit. Poor kid! (so of course I cried.)After that I went in with her, and when she woke up again she was fine and had no recollection of before. We are home now, and she is using her crutches pretty well. She will be in her foot splint for about 10 days and on crutches, no weight bearing until the skin graft takes hold. Then she can start bearing some weight. He says no way she will be making that competition in 3 weeks. She wasn't happy about that! (I didn't tell her that he wasnt' even sure she'd be making the one afterward, at the END of March...yikes.)He said after seeing what was removed and how it looked inside, he's pretty darn confident it is not malignant melanoma. He wouldn't say 100%, because he said "anything's possible", but he said it sure didn't look it to him. We'll know for sure within the next two weeks. So she's on some codeine for pain for the next few days. We are just settling in to get ready for our night of Survivor and Lost! THanks again everyone!
