Hahahahaahahaahahahaa...... so there you go then, I guess it was a valid thought I had had after all and it was just on the tip's of your tongues/stuck at the back of your throats etc but none of you dare say it......

(Although I, obviously, wouldn't be aware of such a film myself )

GREAT thread!

Okay...
Lessee...

Bogart. Check. Although I like the Maltese Falcon's Sam Spaid: "When you're slapped, you'll take it. And like it", besides it's John Huston.

Kurosawa. Given.

Sam "slow-motion" Peckinpah. Of course. (Watch 'Straw Dogs' sometime, just don't wait for slow-motion in that one).
Don't forget John Ford's The Searchers with The Duke..

Steve McQueen. Yup.
The Longest Yard - Burt Reynold's version.
North Dallas Forty.

Goodfellas, Scarface, Godfather I & II. Yup.

Billy Jack (The followup in 71 or so to Born Losers which I saw in the theater AFTER Billy Jack on re-release). Tom Laughlin, (That generation's Steven Seagal).
I HATED the Trial of Billy Jack, but it DID include one of the times I laughed hardest (at a film).
Councilman: “When was the last time you cut your hair?” Drama Teacher: “When was the last time you brushed your teeth, sir?”
It was an early 70's hair thing said by an un-credited Howard Hessman as the Drama teacher (unless you count his credit as 'Don Sturdy').

Some others straight away...
Charles Bronson - some say Death Wish, although I like the interplay with Jan Michael Vincent in The Mechanic.

Robert Mitchum, Seven Samurai previously noted, but Night of the Hunter, Out Of the Past, Cape Fear for starters. Mitchum is one of America's greatest actors.

James Caan - Rollerball
Robert Redford - Jeremiah Johnson
Bruce Lee - Enter The Dragon
The Great One and Paul Newman - The Hustler
Blade Runner
48 Hours (Yeah, I know...)

Oh and another one that comes to mind, pretty obscure movie but:
The Culpepper Cattle Company

And anything with Sheriff/Texas Ranger Earl McGraw (played by Michael Parks):
Kill Bill Vol. I (Okay and also II where Parks plays Esteban Vihaio)
From Dusk till Dawn
Grindhouse

Damn Cuff!!! They should just print your post out and hand it to every male child when he reaches puberty. This is THE list of guy films!

North Dallas Forty. Nick Nolte at his peak. And one of the great movie lines of all time. "Weird?" Weird is when you go to kiss your uncle goodnight and he tounges you. Now that's weird!"
.
The Hustler. OMG! "Play pool Fast Eddie".

Jerimiah Johnson. I make Cheri sit through that every year or so.

Every one of them you mentioned. WOW.

OK, a few more. Who'll Stop the Rain staring Nick Nolte as Ray Hicks, modern Samurai protecting a friend caught in a bad drug deal. When the dealers try to buy him off with promises of doubling his take, he responds "I'm doing a favor for a buddy...how ya gonna double that?" One of my all time favorites.

And Charlie Bronson is Mr Majestyc. "I gotta get these melons in".

I'm thinking a PDC all guy flick film festival now!

Papa T

I'd say 'Sin City', but there's some gals who REALLY like that movie.

A couple others that come to my mind...
'The Boondock Saints' pre-2K I think.

More recently, check out 'Shoot 'Em Up'.
It may stand the test of time.

(I'm looking forward to watching 'Hitman' with Timothy Olyphant of Seth Bullock/Deadwood renown, and recently 'Live Free or Die Hard').

Oh, and I'll watch the original 'Highlander' ('86 or so) anytime I can.
'Blade', with Wesley Snipes, too.
And I really have a spot for 'The 13th Warrior', too. But I really do NOT know why as it isn't a particularly good film...perhaps it's the way the quiet and unassuming "tag-along" works his way into a vital and respected member of the team.

ANYTHING I could mention from about 1943-1955 strictly as a "guy's" film, with little redeeming elements for the fairer sex, just wouldn't work as I've turned too many of the gals I know into film noir fans (besides there always seemed to be a love-story mixed in there somewhere, anything to get your nickel). Richard Widmark, James Cagney, Edward G. Robinson, George Raft, Fred McMurray - who played a great heavy early in his career prior to 'My Three Sons' fame...

This was really the beginning of the introduction of the anti-hero to filmdom, woven with enough humanity for us to actually care about what happens to the bad guy. Of course culminating to the point where in 1972's The Getaway, you CHEER when the "bad guys" (in this case a guy and a girl) actually DO get away with their crimes and the audience feels GOOD about it.

Oh, almost forgot. A movie ahead of its time, whose star recently passed.
'The Seven-Ups', with Roy Scheider. ("We're gonna need a bigger BOAT!")

My MOM loves that movie.
(Glen Campbell was in it)

Now if you wanted to say 'The Cowboys', with JW...I don't know too many gals who really dig THAT one. Besides, they're driving cattle to Belle Fourche in that movie, just a short way from here...

Next time you are down here we can forget spending the day at El paraiso...I'm breakin' out the DVDs!

I love the 13th Warrior...agreed it's a B movie but it works...I think because of the "outsider" element you talk about and also the idea that every man has a warrior within him that needs only the right circumstance to emerge.

And Roy Scheider..RIP. Just the other night I watched &q
