Default One more movie thread

We've had a lot of movie threads lately and I thought I would start one more.

In this morning's Washington Post there is, strangely enough, a review of a movie made almost 40 tears ago, "Medium Cool".

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn...022900913.html

It's reviewed as being an inspiration for "Chicago 10" a new flick. I saw Medium Cool in 1969 when it was released and it was one of the movies that helped change my view of the world (it helped "radicalize" me as the popular saying of the time went). It and "The Strawberry Statement" (1970) are movies which I think captured perfectly a moment in time that I understood and felt part of. So what movies represent a part of your life or time?

"Amadeus" was important for me, in terms of demonstrating how rare and fragile a truly creative personality can be.

I think if we're talking about movies that identify with the times of our youth, then probably The Breakfast Club would be one that would be along those lines for me.

Good one, Woodman! That one reminds me of my high school days too.

I would have to say "Woodstock" and "Thelma and Louise". The 1st because I moved to So. Cal. in the hippie era and music was such a big part of my life then (and still is), and the 2nd for girl power/freedom themes as I was going through a really horrible divorce when that movie was released.

"Behind the Green Door"?

Seriously though Tony, I can't pinpoint that "one" movie that did it for me. For pure enterainment value, watching Star Wars for the first time as a 10 year old was amazing.

I'll try to think of some movies when I was growing up, but right now nothing is coming to mind.

Strawberry Statement for sure and Easy Rider, Dr. Strangelove, and 2001: A Space Odyssey.

I do remember watching 2001: A Space Odyssey when it first came out. (Dad was babysitting, and dragged me along because he really wanted to see it ... I was 8 at the time)
Munching my way through a mega-pack of Milk Duds, I remember the apes/monolith scene, and later the baby floating in space ...
and wondering "What the f*ck?"

Fast forward to college, I was so excited to go see it again, because NOW I really would understand what the f*ck it was all about. Miss Collegiate came out of there, still shaking her head in bewilderment, 12 years later ...

Hahaha, the first time I saw it was at the drive-in (a place you used to watch movies from your car) in the rain on peyote. Watched it the night of the Millenium - both of them in fact and after countless viewings have came to the conclusion it is about mankind having to realize we don't have all the answers. And what was with that blue food...

I was working in a small theatre that showed that film. It had quite an impact on me.
I believe our next film was "Z"..another powerful film for me.

SPOILER: When Thorn discovers that he is too late to stop Sol's suicide, he begins to cry. Charlton Heston was really crying he was the only person on set who knew Edward G. Robinson was dying of cancer. His death scene was the last day he worked in his life; he died just nine days after shooting wrapped.

Some trivia that I just found today.

Absolutely, "Z". Not only was it perfect for it's time in America ("there was revolution in the air"-Dylan) but the movie made me think globaly for the first time, i.e. the "struggle" was world wide. Beautiful, frightening and impressive movie. Thanks for reminding me of it.

I went with my dad to see a showing of Modern Times with Charlie Chaplin, in Edingborugh, Scotland We are not that old, of course, but it was part of a series of old films. I remember being very touched by it.
