Ok, tomorrow is St. Paddy's Day. How will you be celebrating the unlimited contributions to civilization by the worlds greatest people?
If we were in San Francisco Cheri and I would take the day off. We haven't worked on St. Paddy's in twenty years. We'd start by going to lunch at Miles O'Reillys place for corned beef and some 1/2 and 1/2's (half a pint of Harp mixed with half a pint of Guiness). Then we would wander over to Amante's where the legendary Michael McCourt would be behind the bar. I fell in love with Mc Court (whose brother Frank wrote "Angela's Ashes") years ago. He tended bar in an upscale SF restaurant. One night I ordered Bourbon from my table. The waitress returned with a glass of Jameson's Irish Whiskey and said "Mr. McCourt says he won't serve that shite. He says drink real whiskey. It's on the house." Later we might head over to Ireland's 32 (and you best be knowing what that means) to listen to some of the old songs. In the day the bucket would be passed for the Provos. No more. Peace has come. Tomorrow I'll celebrate by raising a glass to Rosalie Compton Head whose red hair was "no lie' about her Irish temper, and who taught her son to wear the green proudly. How will you be celebrating?

I'll try to head over to the Luna Green for a drink or two before heading to Cancun for a good old fashioned pub crawl. Something makes me think the Spring Breakers are going to be having a good ole time at Pat O'Briens tomorrow night.
I never got to experience a Cancun style Spring Break, so now that I live 45 minutes away, I figure it's about time I saw what all the fuss is about.

May those that love us, love us.
And those that don't love us, May God turn their hearts. And if He doesn't turn their hearts, May He turn their ankles, So we will know them by their limping. Cheers to everything green.

We got an early start by going out to "O Hares" bar on Saturday night. It's our local place. They had one of the good local bands playing. Sunday we went to some friends house that is strategically located 3 blocks from the parade route one way and 3 blocks from 2 Irish bars the other way. People just went back and forth between the places. Weather was good. High 40s. On the way home later we hit a couple of other bars and O 'Hares again for some great corned beef and cabbage to take home for dinner.

I'm an Orangeman, darling T --
Grandmother Hendren from County Armaugh used to make a special trip over to our house before school started, to make sure we were wearing orange on Mar 17! (Two blocks away) THAT explains everything about our dynamic! |

Oh, Paddy dear, and did you hear The news that's going round? The shamrock is forbid by law To grow on Irish ground! St. Patrick's Day no more we'll keep, His color can't be seen, For there's a bloomin' law agin' The wearing of the green. I met with Napper Tandy And he took me by the hand, And he said, "How's poor old Ireland And how does she stand?" "She's the most distressful country That ever yet was seen; They're hanging men and women there For wearing of the green." Then since the color we must wear Is England's cruel red, Sure Ireland's songs will ne'er forget The blood that they have shed. You may take the shamrock from your hat now, Cast it on the sod, But 'twill take root and flourish still, Tho' under foot it's trod. When the law can stop the blades of green From growing as they grow, And when the leaves in summertime Their verdue dare not show, Then I will change the color that I Wear in my canteen; But 'till that day, please God, I'll stick To wearing of the green. Up the Rebels. A Nation Once Again! Regargless of the color on your sleeve Happy St. Paddy's Day. Papa T

I'll be a-goin to mi good friend's bar, laddy......the Luna Green.....to drink some green beer and sing the ole Irish songs.
![]() Over in Killarney Many years ago, Me Mither sang a song to me In tones so sweet and low. Just a simple little ditty, In her good ould Irish way, And l'd give the world if she could sing That song to me this day. "Too-ra-loo-ra-loo-ral, Too-ra-loo-ra-li, Too-ra-loo-ra-loo-ral, hush now, don't you cry! Too-ra-loo-ra-loo-ral, Too-ra-loo-ra-li, Too-ra-loo-ra-loo-ral, that's an Irish lullaby." Oft in dreams I wander To that cot again, I feel her arms a-huggin' me As when she held me then. And I hear her voice a -hummin' To me as in days of yore, When she used to rock me fast asleep Outside the cabin door.
