Default Sad Songs

My boss called me today to say he needed a song to dance with his daughter to at her upcoming wedding. I told him to come up, I had the perfect song.
I played "I Loved Her First" for him, he started to cry, then I got all choked up. On my way home I was thinking of songs that just bring tears to my eyes when I hear them. The other one that does that to me is, "One Moment More" by Mindy Smith. It makes me think of my Mother who died when I was young.
So, what song does that to you?

That one always gets me too, because it makes me think of the tragedy connected with the song.

My mother used to always get mad how people would would all be visiting and chatting at a Rosary for the dead. (Catholic wake). She always said "they all better be crying at mine and if they are all chatting it up, I'm going to sit up in my coffin and say " ya'll shut up, I'm dead here". Well I wanted to grant her wish and played Connie Francis's "Mama" during the service. There wasn't a dry eye in the house.

Others that make me cry,
Ave Maria
Time to say Goodbye by Andrea Bocacelli
Silent Night

I just went and listened to "Mama". Beautiful song and I could just imagine all those people crying.

Oh my gosh Sunbaby, we must be twins! Those songs are very sentimental to me and bring a lump to my throat when I hear them. 'Time To Say Goodbye' especially because I played this over and over again for my Dad in his final hours. It was on of his favorite songs. In fact, he bought me the CD a few years ago when it came out.

Dad loved the Italian version with Sarah Brightman and Andrea Bocelli

Another one that brings tears to my eyes is Judy Garland's 'Somewhere Over The Rainbow' (my Mom's song) which we played at her service, done by Eva Cassidy. May you RIP Eva.
But the one that brings me down to my knees? Aaron Nevilles' Ave Maria. We had this one at my Mom's service also, by Aaron Neville. I felt so humbled.

Eva Cassidy's 'Over The Rainbow'

The traditional Irish ballad, Danny Boy. For me the ultimate story of setting your children free and saying goodbye to them, hoping they will remember. I cry every time.

Feels Like Home, sung by Bonnie Raitt (on the Michael soundtrack)

This song always makes me cry. Tony found this song and played it for me in the car one night months before we got married. He said, "Listen to this. I found our wedding song. I want you to hear this, because this is how I feel about you." I cried in the car that night, and I cry every time I hear it. Hell, I'm crying right now!

You have to hear it to appreciate it.

Something in your eyes, makes me want to lose myself,
Makes me want to lose myself, in your arms.
There's something in your voice, makes my heart beat fast.
Hope this feeling lasts, the rest of my life.
If you knew how lonely my life has been,
And how low I've felt so long.
If you knew how I wanted someone to come along,
And change my life the way you've done.
CHORUS:
Feels like home to me, feels like home to me,
Feels like I'm on my way back where I come from.
Feels like home to me, feels like home to me,
Feels like I'm on my way back where I belong.
A window breaks down a long dark street,
And a siren wails over my head.
But I'm all right, 'cause I have you here with me.
And I can almost see through the dark there's light.
If you knew how much this moment means to me,
And how long I've waited for your touch.
If you knew how happy you are making me --
I've never thought I'd love anyone so much.
CHORUS
Feels like I'm on my way back where I belong.
