It is a bizarre movie that in some scenes it does not make sense. Part of the opening scene was something else where Lewellyn does not give that dying man any water. But then, in the middle of the night, he decides to go back and bring the guy some water. Oh well, if he had not then the movie probably would have lost its momentum right there.
IMHO, NCFOM has a unique and frustrating end in the sense that nothing gets resolved or it has a happy ending. Lewellyn dies because he took that money, the sheriff retires because he is burned out, and the ruthless killer just splits leaving viewers just hanging. We have to imagine that he goes on to spend the money and keeps killing people that piss him off. The viewing public is supposed to be a bit frustrated in the sense that the character's situations are not wrapped up nicely. The first half hour of the movie was so danged disturbing...that was slow in developing but very effective in the sense that it set the pace for the intensity of the film. What really got to me about the movie are all of the innocent victims that Anton killed like the chicken farmer who stops to help him and the first man who pulls over thinking a policeman is stopping him. The scene with the store clerk was so tense...where he was told to call the coin toss. I thought for sure that Anton would kill the manager of the trailer court. She was so assertive with him about Lewellyn's whereabouts. What was kind of a surprise but then I halfway expected it was when Lewellyn's wife is killed. It was cool that she didn't call the coin toss, but then she dies. Anton getting hurt in the car wreck gave a new twist to the movie in the sense that it seemed as if he would get caught. His exchange with the kids on the bikes was interesting...he seemed almost human because he needed their help. But prior to that, when he is shot and blows up the car in order to distract people so he can rob the pharmacy is just crazy. I loved Woody Harrelson's character. Sheesh, when he is sitting in that Mexican hospital with a bouquet of flowers.

I was amazed that Woody got trapped so easily. He sounded like a bad ass comparitively to Anton. The thing I hated about Lewellyn's death...was that we didn't even get to see it...all of the sudden the main character is laying there dead??? Another thing.....I wonder if he (Tommy Lee) was dreaming when he saw the old man in the shack (His Dad??) At the very end he was talking about 2 dreams.

We actually went to see this movie while in Playa at the new mall.
I was digging the movie but the ending or last 15 minutes was so friggen bad that it completely ruined the movie for me. What the hell was all that nonsense at the end with the Sheriff and that old dude...why the terrible opened ended ending...it just wrecked what i though was going to be a good show. Another movie where the directors are so full of themselves that they try to be too clever and wreck what could have been something good. |

This could be true. I would have rather seen a more predictable, or standard, ending myself. I thought it was strange to introduce Woody's character as such a badass and then have him killed SO easily. From there is was all downhill, and I was left hating it too. I think it was pretentious to end it the way they did, and it left the viewers feeling disappointed in the end.

In reference to the scene witht the sherriff and his father, I think that might have been a flashback. What is bothersome and frustrating about this movie is that there is no poetic justice whatsoever. In regards, to the ending, that is typical of some novels to leave the final scenes wide open. Keeps us guessing... The Coehn brothers did Fargo. Did you see that movie? Last night, I watched Atonement. That movie frustrated the hell out of me. I enjoyed it very much, but the ending was so ....(I won't ruin the ending) |

I LOVED the movie Fargo....then again I was born and raised in FARGO, ND and currently live not far from Brainard MN so go figure. That film is a great characiture of the people who live in this area.
I also loved Oh Brother. The Coehn brothers have definately made some good movies....No Country for Old Men WASNT one of them and is a typical travesty of the movie awards. I dont even watch them anymore as they are a joke. Quote:
I also was baffled by why Woodys character was so easily dispatched. I thought there would be an excellent fight to the death but no. I have yet to talk to someone who liked this movie although I am sure there are some out there. |
