Girls Mexico Cruise Trip Report

Day 2

We wake up bright and.....oops not so early! It was 6:45 and my alarm had not gone off.



Good Morning!!


....or not




Cant figure out why...Little while later my alarm goes off. Finally hit us, the phone had automatically switched to Mexico time(pre daylight savings), the ship had not. There is just something so nice about waking up in Mexico. We got ready, gathered our things and headed out to breakfast.










We had breakfast at the Windjammer Cafe and then headed down to disembark and meet our tour group.

We were scheduled to go on the Califa Valley Wine Tasting Tour.






I had no idea that Baja had such a huge wine area. The drive out to the wineries was about 45 mins through absolutely beautiful countryside.

The first Winery we went to was L.A. Cetta. We started with a stop at the Veranda, their area to view the valley, fields and bullfighting ring.









Then back down to the winery itself for he tour. Our tour guide couldn't figure out why we were all so quiet....still waiting for the wine!

Finally it's time to drink!
We started with Whites and moved our way to reds. I've gotta admit I still don't do red wine...I tried but no go. They served us bread and olive oil that they also produce there.








It was delicious.....I think I could have lived off that bread and been perfectly happy.
When they said wine tasting.....well each kind of wine I had a lot more than just a taste of. Next up...Shopping time!



After a short drive through the vineyard and across the street we are on to Winery #2! The crowd is a little more lively by now. At first look this one is plain in comparison but once you start making your way inside it was really impressive.

On to another round of wines! This winery also produced Brandy....by the time we left I was feeling very content and warm.



When we got back into Ensenada, we had the option of being dropped off in town or going straight back to the ship. Ensenada itself wasn't impressive to me. It seemed too crowded and crazed...especially with all the spring break kids.




So we all decided to go back to the boat. Back through security...metal detectors, Seapass...to the terminal. We made a quick stop in the stores to pick up little souvenirs for the boys.




Getting onto th boat we had to present our Seapass again..no problem. My mom and aunt had to check the alcohol they had purchased(yeah they don't let you have it until you get back). I went back to our room and let myself in. They joined me in a few minutes and we went to go have lunch.

After lunch I went to go change to go out to the pool and meet up with them later. However, when I got to the room and tried to open the door...red light. It wont unlock.
Try it again...and again..and again. Nothing. Okay they should be here soon. I'll just wait....okay maybe I'll wait down by the elevators. After a while I figured I would try it again..maybe it was just a fluke. Nope still nothing. Okay maybe they are still up in the restaurant. Back up to deck 11. Nope not in the restaurant....maybe we passed each other in the elevators...I'll try the room again. Back down to 2.....tried knocking...nothing. Tried the card...again....nothing. When I had just given up and figured I should just go to the main desk and figure out the problem.....here they come!

Hi Kayt-
Isn't the wine valley cool? My husband and I went a couple of weekends ago and just loved it! We went to L.A.Cetto, but didn't make it to Domeq because we were also visiting the smaller wineries along the way and we ran out of time. Going again mid May. You know, they have a wine and food fest in October out that way, you may want to keep it in mind if you aren't afraid to drive down there.
By the way, love your chanclas !!

It was so beautiful! Such a nice day trip for us to do....away from the the drunk kids

How long of a trip is it down there if you drive? Did you stay in Ensenada?

It takes us about 2 1/2 hours from Orange County to get to the turn off just before you get to Ensenada.
Drive into Tijuana, take the Rosarito/Ensenada cuota (toll road) route (By that time, you've past the scary part of driving through the outskirts along the border fence through Tijuana, after that, it's cake!)and stay on the toll road till you reach the last toll booth just outside of Ensenada. That itself is a nice drive. There is a sign that says Ruta de Vino/Tecate, you take that road through the valley.
We have a place in Rosarito, so we stay there when we make our way to the wine route but Ensenada has nice hotels.
FYI -Coming back through the border on a weekday mid-day is better on the nerves!

So quick change and stop by the main desk to get my card fix (I figured if it wouldn't work in the door it wouldn't work for drinks!) and I'm back off to the pool deck. We had fallen into our roles pretty well by then....moms taking a nap, my aunt is taking pictures and I'm taking shots!

After catching a bit of sun my aunt and I catch up for some drinks as we start to sail out of Ensenada.




Soon it was time to get ready for our formal night.....which turned out to be easier said than done. My dresses zipper proved to be a problem....whenever it met new material it would jam.....I swear we must have spent 20 mins trimming lose threads and trying to get it to go. My aunt almost gave up....I'm stubborn I bought this dress for this night and damned if I wasn't going to wear it! Finally, we got it zipped up all the way. Got mom into her dress. Hair and make-up done and we are ready to go!







First stop was the Captains reception. Met the captain and took a photo(which I don't have a copy of yet).








Next step onto the professional photos. Its so much fun to do those and how often do any of us really get to.

Finally onto dinner!



Our neighbors at the table next to us have some “guests” with them.
The girls seemed to have adopted a couple stray boys. They kept telling us to join them at the table.....after they had been drinking in Ensenada all day. At the end of dinner when the photographer came around they finally managed to convince us to come over and take a picture with them.....and one of the guys spilled an entire glass of red wine down the back of me!!


I couldn't even be mad at the poor bumbling drunk guy.

I got sucked into another photo op


Back down to the room for another quick change. Tonight I am going dancing!

so I tried to take a pic of myself before going out..didnt wor as well as hoped


and to take a pic of my shoes....but heres a pic of them



I got to the club as they were finishing up karaoke(Sorry Jenny I didn't have time to participate) I ran into the girls from the table next to us....the not so drunk ones, LOL, and joined them.

After a few minutes my aunt came in and we had some more drinks....neither of us knew where my mom was. After we finished our drinks I went to dance and my aunt left. In a bit my Mom shows up...do I know where my aunt is....no why? Mom is stuck in her dress and cant get out because she cant reach her zipper. Hell of a night for zippers!

She eventually found my aunt in the casino playing slots!





I danced and did shots until I lost the girls. By then people were just getting too drunk and belligerent so i decided to call it a night....I have no idea what time it was. I made my way back to the room.

Somehow managed to climb into my bunk....and fell fast asleep.
