Default Moses died yesterday

Charleton Heston died last night. He was always one of my favorite actors. One of the first movies I ever saw was "The Ten Commandments" and I still love it. I also recently added another all time favorite Heston movie to my CD collection. The Naked Jungle (not as sexy as it sounds...it's the movie version of Lennigen vs. the Ants). And Kahrtoum...and Agony and the Ecstacy...and Ben Hur...Lots of great movies. He was an old style, bigger than life Hollywood star. Rest in peace.

Wow, I hadn't heard about that...but I gotta tell you this fairydogmother's heart stopped when I saw the title of the thread, and my first thought was - oh no, not Ginger's dog! So I was glad to read that was not the case.....

During a stump speech, here in Minnesota in 1994 for Rod Grams, Heston said, "We have to get back to the values and perceptions of those wise old dead white guys who invented this country."

Gram's opponent for the Senate raised hell about this politically incorrect statement.

Heston taped a reply: "Let's see now," I said, "they were wise, they were old, they're dead, they were white guys, and they invented this country. Which word in that sentence don't you understand?"

They don't make them like that anymore.

Aww...may Mr. Heston rest in peace. He is one of the greatest for sure.

The Ten Commandments...what a movie! I remember as a young girl, my Dad gave us 50 cents to catch the Sunday afternoon matinee at the Rideau Theatre here in Ottawa. I bought myself a Coke and a Babe Ruth candy bar and made it last through the second showing of this great movie.

He was such a great actor and what a beautiful Moses was he.

I am sure that he and Our Maker are having a great conversation right now.

Did you know Heston was a life long Democrat and didn't become a Republican until his friend Ron Reagan was elected? Did you know he was a lifetime supporter of civil rights, one of the first in Holywood to praise Martin Luther King, and was a rabid opponent of conservatives who attempted to cut funding for the National Endowment for the Arts. Things ain't always what they appear.

But regardless of his independent minded politics he was one of those actors who always delivered.

As a matter of fact, I did know all of the above.

I posted his retort because I am a big fan of his work and because it showed his quick wit and not because I'm a STAUNCH Republican.

I've followed his medical progress closely because he announced his diagnosis with Alzheimer's on the same day my mother was diagnosed with this shitty disease.

Let's all hope that a cure for Alzheimer's is found soon. We've lost three of my mom's brothers and now my mom and her twin sister are in the final stages.

Please support your local Alzheimer's Association.

So sorry to hear this. This is tough.
Will remember your Mom in my prayers tonight.

A truly great American that will be missed. I knew him mostly from being President of the NRA (of which I am a member), and a famous actor. I admit having not seen a single movie with him in it however. Judging by the responses, I have some movie watching to do!

Most conservatives were at one time or another democrats. That is until the party left them and the US.

Agreed. Great flick and probably the first space opera, if you don't count "Plan 9 from Outer Space."
