Love the shoes!!! Oh and that cute little Coach wristlet wasn't half bad either. Does that match the bag you got earlier this year?

I'm loving your report and all the pictures! And the shoe thing cracks me up, but I do understand. Here are my Dior's that have the aforementioned magical powers That'd be funny if you have the same ones!

How many Coach wristlets did you bring on your trip?

Great trip report! I am voting for you and Zung as the best dressed couple in PDC.

May 6, Day 7 – So, here it is – our last full day – I couldn’t somehow turn 24 hours into 48. We are determined to thoroughly enjoy it just as much as the first day.

I think we ordered room service for breakfast, but I also have a memory of a gentleman from Iberostar-board coming up to me at breakfast at Bella Vista, and asking if I was a board member so I could be confused. It happens. All the time.

Well, I do know we got room service for breakfast twice. When you fill out the card and put it on your door they give you several half hour windows to choose from for when it can arrive. Both orders came at the beginning of that window. It was another feast today. We ordered the same things as last time. It was all pretty yummy.

Then we actually did something different! We got a ride over to the Commercial Center. They thought I wanted the Convention Center. I guess most people call it the Shopping Center. He drove by the Commercial Center and then pulled up to the Convention Center and I went “Uhhhh, the Shopping Center?”

We needed to get a couple gifts. We got Patrick a silver bracelet. It had symbols on it and I asked what kind of symbols they were and she told me it was Pre-Hispanic Mayan writing. Zung thought Patrick would really like that, so we got her to come down a tiny bit on the price. When Patrick wore it to school, some girl told him it was Hebrew. I didn’t know Hebrew was the same as Mayan.

We walked around the shopping center and got a couple t-shirts. I love the crepes, but I was still pretty stuffed from breakfast, so we passed this time. We walked back to the Grand. The weather was soooo wonderful the whole week.

Once we got back it was off to the beach. My good friend, Carlos was there. I loved seeing his smiling face every day. Not only because he kept me well supplied with adult beverages, but because he was always smiling. And he always gave us water. It made me feel like he was looking out for us.

You all know the routine, beach, drinks, lunch at Las Brisa.

More beach, drinks, frolicking in the water. I got taken out by the rocks earlier in our trip, so I didn’t go out very far after that. I think Zung went for a run today. We went to the spa pool. Nothing exciting, just more of the same fabulous time.

Then it was back to the room, get ready for dinner. Havana rum and cokes. Bet you couldn’t have guessed that one.

We ate at Toni’s Surf and Turf for our last night. They were photographing some people out on the deck for some ad or article. It must have been maddening to have that food and those drinks right in front of them and not be able to eat them. The male model came over when they were done and started eating some of the food. I wonder if I’ll see the pictures anywhere.

We had a nice dinner. They did overcook the lamb again. But we had Domingo as our waiter again and we liked him. We had asked for Karim because we knew he’d been there the times we ate at Venecia, but tonight he was at the Gourmet.

Look! I took pictures of dessert again.

One might think all I did was eat dessert and drink alcohol. That is so not what happened. And there’s no one around that can dispute that.

After dinner we stopped in the lobby bar before going to the theatre. Uriel, one of the Starfriends came over to talk with us. We had chatted with him earlier in the week. He said he wants to be a lawyer and is from Guadalajara. He thinks he will work there for about 6 months before going home to go to law school. We exchanged email addresses. A woman came up to me to ask if my name was Andrea. It was Stephanie who is on a couple of the same boards as me. She was in the first half of her vacation. Lucky thing. She said that she had seen me before, but I was “really relaxing” so she didn’t want to bother me. I wonder what I look like when I’m really relaxing.

The show in the theatre was “Boogie Nights” with music from the 70’s and 80’s. It was actually a lot more fun than I thought it would be. We saw Amy and Kevin on or way out and talked a bit to them. Then we went back to our room. Last night. It has been so wonderful.

I brought two. One for day and one for night. I only have three, but the other one is suede. Zung got me two and my daughter, Susie, got me the white one. I have a purse that matches the gold one and was shoe shopping with a friend on Sunday and they had tennies to match! I didn't get them though. They were "cute" but ugly - know what I mean?

May 7, Day 8 – The sad day has come that is the end of our fabulous vacation.

I actually think it was today that we got room service. So go back and look at those pictures again. I set the alarm for 6:30 am because I wanted to get as much time on the beach as possible before we had to leave. I had requested breakfast arrive from 7-7:30 and it arrived shortly after 7. We enjoyed it on the balcony.

Then we packed our bags, got ready to go to the beach and headed out.

It was the earliest we had been out and we have to walk past the main pool to get towels. I saw many of the chairs reserved. Even at the beach, where there are TONS of palapas, some people played the towel game.

They were cleaning up seaweed on the beach and they were photographing that couple we saw the night before again, this time in the ocean.

We enjoyed the view.

I watched a very young child playing in the ocean. He was having such a good time. He’d jump up and land on his butt, a wave would roll over him and he was at it again right away. Oh, to be so young, fearless and take such enjoyment in such a simple thing.

Carlos came by a couple times. I tipped him extra and told him it was our last day and thanked him for taking such good care of us. I asked for a Miami Vice. I was in the water when he came around again, and the next time he came by, he had another Miami Vice for me. Did I mention he was the best beach waiter ever? (Although, writing that I do feel compelled to mention Federicko from the Royal Hideaway who introduced me to Havana Rum, for which I will forever be grateful).

We took a walk down past the Lindo, Maya and Beach/Del Mar. There were some cool sand sculptures.

I took a few last pictures.

Kind of dark, I know, but look at that amazing view behind Zung.

and these may or not be the ones I took that day.

Soon, it was time to go back and shower and finish packing. The bellman had called the day before to ask when we wanted our bags picked up. Check out is noon, so that’s what we requested. At noon I went to check us out at the lobby and Zung stayed to wait for the bellman. When I returned, the bellman had not yet come. By 12:15 I called the concierge and asked about it. He was supposed to be on his way. By 12:25 we started to take them ourselves as we were down to less than an hour to be able to eat lunch. He arrived as we waited for the elevator.

We went to Las Brisas for lunch. The hostess was the same one from Venecia and she saw us come in and said “Karim, right?” She sat us in his section. It was good to see him again. We ordered our usual Havana ruma and coke for me and Corona for Zung, Zung got the shrimp fajitas again and I got the Kobe Hamburger again. Our other favorite waiter delivered it. We had some dessert and then the only think left to do was leave. We made the sad walk to the lobby. The Apple driver was waiting for us.

When we approached the airport he told us it was very busy and not to let anyone take our bags. I told Zung to give him a little extra tip since he was looking out for us.
We checked in and went through security. We went to the duty free shop and I looked very longingly at the Havana rum. But I’m a law-abiding citizen (or at least one who is afraid of getting caught), so look is all I did. (We didn’t quite finish the bottle in our room I’m so ashamed to admit). I asked about Tequila because that is what Nicholas wanted and they showed me some mid-priced stuff. I asked what was the best and he showed me a bottle that was $238! I aksed for the “not quite the best”, and we got a bottle for a much more reasonable price. I don’t like tequila, so tasting it wouldn’t have helped. I got Susie some perfume and picked up a bottle for myself. I couldn’t figure out the price and a lady came over to help me. It was $121! She told me it was very exclusive, but I didn’t get sucked in, and bought a less expensive bottle. Then we went to Margaritaville. I wanted a Coco Loco, which may be my new favorite frou-frou drink. They didn’t have it. I ended up ordering this drink that came in a pineapple.

I’m not sure there was too much alcohol in it. I probably should have just had another Havana rum and coke. Well, there’s always the next trip, in July!

If you are still with me, thanks so much for reading. Thanks to everyone who made such nice comments. I hope you enjoy your next vacation to Paradise!

Your trip report was amazing and the photos were so, so good. Just beautiful, sorry it had to end. I'm looking forward to the next installation. You know, I've never done an AI in my life, I always swore 'em off- but you make it sound so good I think I'm going to start looking into it!

I have a craving for Havana Club rum, too! I've never tried it.
