First off I'd like to thank everyone who gave me input on my Coba suggestion thread before I went! The info was invaluable!!!!
Everyone has there own way of doing things. When doing something like Coba, I prefer to beat the crowds to enhance my experience. I started off from Akumal at about 7am. It was a bueatiful drive from Tulum on into the interior. No traffic to speak of, a nice balmy 80ish, windows rolled down....and some nice ipod tunes goin!
I arrived at 8:05am...they opened at 8

I was the first car in the lot, which was perfect for me

I walked straight on up to the bike shack and rented my wheels for the morning, think it was 80 pesos, well worth it unless you like walking many kilometers through the jungle

. I lathered up with bug repellent and was on my way. First stop of course was the grand Pyramid. It took me about 10 mins to climb it (with a smoke break half way up...

). The view was incredible! You could see other structures poking through the jungle canopy, the Lake in the distance.....and not a person in sight.
As I climbed down, the first other 2 peeps of the day showed up at the base. We exchanged "hellos" and on my trusty bike I went! Just riding through the empty jungle was a blast! The Vegetation....jungle sounds, birds, etc...were awesome. I remember thinking at one point, because everything is so spread out and I was quite alone, that I wonder whats out here? Seems like my memory was telling me that there at least used to be Panthers out here

All of the sudden......alone brought a whole new meaning....
The ruins are broken up into the 3 large tribes, or groups. So riding from one group to another was a bit of a ways. There was a myriad of different structure types, along with a plethera of the stone Markers, which Coba is quite famous for. Some of the markers had very distinct glyphs still visible! I loved the trees...and plants, just growing haphazardly out of the ruins. It really helps illustrate just how old these ruins are! Now mind you.... you can get REAL adventurous here, going of paths and just venturing into the jungle. I didn't do to much of that......but I could see wide expanses of open jungle that were deffinatly off the paths.
By the time I got to the third groups area, I was starting to see random folks biking and walking. By the time I got back to the entrance at 10:30, the buses were arriving en force! Time for me to hit the road...LOL. On the way out I stopped at the lake, which is outside the ruins complex, to get some Croc shots
All in all....It was a wonderful experience! I was able to see just about everything, and didn't feel rushed. I highly recommend to anyone to do it early. It's more....adventurous when your not surrounded by a few hundred or more peeps. Also, get your fun in before the noon heat hits. I've put together a slide show. with what I thought was some appropriate music
So if your interested in watching....throw on some headphones....grab a Margarita.....and enjoy! Thanks for reading and watching
