Thanks, I knew I was getting mixed up on my nights.
Sunday, march whatever. It was overcast and not a good beach day. Evelyn and I wanted to go snorkeling and talked to the nice people at Tanka Dive for an honest opinion. They said it wouldn't be a good day, so we just walked around town shopping. We wanted to have lunch at Babes but they were closed, so we went to Carboncitos. We met up with Brenda and Laura around 4:30 to get ready for dinner at Manny's Beergarten for prime rib. Joe was there and we knew we would see jackie and her mum. The prime rib was wonderful and so was the shot of tequila that came with the meal. ( I had 3 shots ) Later, Mikey and Erica stopped by. jackie and mum ![]() I don't remember what I did after that. Maybe stopped at Bourbon street to listen to Memo's band. |

I remember what happened on Monday. Hah!
Brenda, laura and I decided to go back to El piratas again. Brenda loves the eggs benidicts there for breakfast. Evelyn finally went to take a refresher scuba course and go diving. I was really excited for her, she has done nothing but dream about it for 3 years. Again, I just vegged on the beach. We decided to get the shrimp cocktails for lunch. They used to be 90 pesos but have gone up to 120.00 pesos. ![]() after lunch, we saw the divers headed for the boat. I went to take a pic of Evelyn, but she wasn't with them. ![]() I asked them where she was and the instructor said she wasn't going and that she wasn't feeling well. OH NOOOOO!!!! Finally Evelyn came out to the beach in her regular clothes. She had a bronchial infection a few weeks ago and she still had some after-effects from it. She said she had trouble breathing the oxygen and didn't want to risk diving. I think I was more bummed out about it than she was. She went next door to Colibri to drown her sorrows in a big plate of Cerviche. Later Judy Blue Eyes and Joe stopped by. Joe was on his way to meet some single ladies down the beach. Jusy stayed with us. ![]() Towards the end of the afternoon, Judy headed home and I decided to get a massage. It was wonderful, but I really wanted to just lay there after it was over. Not gonna happen. The beach clubs were picking up the chairs and it was time to get up, walk back to the hotel and think about dinner. Babes Noodle house was tonights delight. ![]() ![]() After dinner, I went in search of Judy at the bucket Judy was there and we, with laura, decided to check out the fire dancers. It was a first time for Laura. ![]() Soon after, we headed back to the hotel fro some sleep. Last full day next...akumal Last edited by SUNBABY; 03-20-2008 at 05:47 PM. |

Tuesday...our last full day. It was looking like the winds have died down, so we decided to rent a car and head for Akumal.
We stopped at the Luncheria outside of the super chomack for breakfast and supplies for the beach. A really great cheap place for eating. We parked at the Lo-hal resturant and unloaded all our stuff. Luckily, we found a place to spread a couple of bedsheets under a palm tree. I forgot to pack my mask so I had to go rent one. I adjusted it several times and finally went into the water. The mask kept leaking and I kept adjusting it. After I get all the way out in the bay, I said "screw it" and headed back to shore. This mask was not going to work. Laura's mask was also leaking, so we switched masks and that seem to work for the both of us. I have been snorkeling in the bay for the last 10 years and I was determined to find that damn barracuda (barry) and the eel. As usual, I came upon the turtles first. I watched them for a while and then headed out for the reef. The water was still a little wavy and the sand had been stirred up from the last few days. I was surprised that there weren't many fish out there. Did they go on vacation? Anyways, I searched among the reef looking for that eel. I even kinda hung out near a snorkeling tour with Alexandro hoping he would spot it and holler it out within listening distance..nope..no sightings. After an hour I decided to head back towards shore for a break. On the way back, I came upon a leopard ray. I proceded to video him when he decided to swim towards me. I kept thinking about the Croc hunter and I started to get out of his way. That ray was big and very cool to see, But i have seen a bigger one than that one before. A few more feet back towards the beach, I hit the motherlode. OMG... will I get to see Barry this time? It was a Huge bait ball... thousands of fish just swarming around. Some spots were so thick with fish, that if Barry was in there, I might not see him. It was really cool. Here were all these fish and at the same time there were a couple of turtles and 2 huge fish that I think were groupers, just all swimming around me. I shot some video. remember, the water was choppy and I was bouncing around and the visibility was not at its best....thanks to Mikey, I am able to post what I saw. www.playadailynews.com/rita.wmv I finally made it to shore and collasped on the beach. No more snorkeling for me..I was tired and wiped out. We hung around the beach for the next couple of hours and talked about where to have dinner that night. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |

We decided on La pesca's again. I had the shrimp casserole.
![]() I was hoping to run into Craig and Pat later at the bucket, but dinner took a lot longer than expected. Then our taxi tried to take us to the colosio. After straigntening him out that we wanted 5th and calle ten and not 50th, we got out at constituients. Dang, I missed them. We had to get up early in the morning so I went back to the hotel to pack. Bummer. Got up at 7am on Wed, did the final packing and was ready when our transfer back to the airport got there. Terminal 3 is really nice. No lines to check in and nobody searching our checked bags. We had time to eat at a little resturant there. Mikey and Erica had tamales that really looked good, and they were..I sneaked a bite. I had breakfast tacos. Plane took off on time.. we sat in the front again. finally, we were back home. |

DAMN, Rita!!
Sounds like one hell of a time was had...and nice trip report too. (I miss your humor!). Joe looks good. I'll make sure I never wear a speedo within a MILE of you! Was Manne's as good as when we shared some prime rib with Joe? Yes, or no, on HC on Constituyentes? How's my old pal Memo? (Is Ismal still around, or did he head back to TJ)? Thanks for bringing it to all of us! ![]() ![]()

Great report Rita! I loved the video and your commentary. The speedo theme is hilarious, but I couldn't read your report before breakfast.
I want to time my next trip to coincide with yours....on our way back from Valladolid we stopped at Akumal with snorkeling gear in tow. I wanted this snorkeling portion of the trip very much. I wasn't sure of the lay of the land, err, water, but then a guided group went out. I grabbed the gear and headed to the water. Henry was adamant that we would not go that far out. I did a WTF!?!, and stated that I would go on my own. That did not help him chill out. Yes, it had been a long day, maybe a long swim wasn't the best idea, but it was our one spat on vacation, and I still haven't seen a turtle while snorkeling. ![]() Help a gal out, and send a missive to NitWit1 please. |
